About LarryFNigh

Biography

Writing is a passion of mine. As is the theater. Acting, singing, and dancing on stage are fairly newfound joys for me. They will get more of my time as I learn more about my craft.
I'm happy that so many have found pleasure in my poetry and stories. I hope to continue satisfying those who take the time and effort to dip into my writing.
If you're new here, welcome. Most of us are friendly around here. And open to forming new friendships. I know I am.

Life Blooms in the Desert

An arts and crafts coatrack got hung on the wall today. It's been waiting for months.  Waterproof covers for exterior electrical outlets were purchased and installed yesterday. One more thing done. The day before some grocery shopping was completed. He felt up to eating again. An endobronchial ultrasound was performed on Wednesday. The results should be good. Little by little, more and...

May We Forget

We may not let our heroes fade with time Lest martyrs be erased from honor's scroll We must make sure the memories stay sublime Of deeds that still define our nation's soul Collectively we share the warriors' pain And cradle fallen soldiers of all kinds  We soothe the brows of patriots again To feel their sacrifices in our minds So raise your glasses to the ones who gave And let the...

To the Bone

To the bone, flayed through flesh and torn away from the tendons and ligaments of a tortured body. Moans of regret, mourning sensitivity, singular loss before the dawning of renewed passion. You have felt it before and wish for it no more; no more  with the suffering,  rejected and escaping, and waiting patiently for your destiny,  writ in your sleepless dreams. It is the last time  that...

Day Is Done

The day is done, and we are still yet one The sun sets soon and roams its way to dawn When we may once more feel our love renewed Enraptured by the passions we've both shared To watch the setting sun with arms entwined Is heaven down on earth when you are near We nod our heads together once again And murmur verbal bouquets to our ears No question that our lives are bound today And have...

Wrong Choice

How to put this discreetly. He's a man and he needs to use a restroom. Sitting down. The restroom is down near the elevators in this college classroom building. He gets off the elevator and scoots around the corner, through the restroom doors, and sees all the stalls are empty. Great. He takes one near the end, of course. Deep in meditation and concentration, he hears the door...

French Kiss

It's just a chance we live; we die in France. It could be anywhere that love may thrive But this is where we did our lover's dance. Our lustful joys will flourish, still, survive, A lover's touch caresses, filled with fun, And shares a fervor vibrant, so alive. In light still bright, we see our poem's done, And share a pledge that we will make tonight, True promise these two lovers...

Pastoral Visit

"You've been good today, so when we get home, you c'n have some ice cream." Aunt Charlotte holds his hand as they walk out of the white clapboarded church into the spring air. Up ahead, at the foot of the steps, Brother Pitman shakes a hand, then another, smiling at each face of a sister or brother. His preaching lasted forever today, with lots of rumbling breaths and flipping his bible...

The Old Front Porch

They approached the front porch hesitantly, passing between two blooming Rose of Sharon bushes with red flowers. A new place, strange to him, with dust specks dancing in the rays of the sun that flickered through the trembling chinaberry leaves down onto the weather-beaten wooden flooring. Everything had been painted at one time. Now just flecks still clung desperately to the surface of...

Preparation

Final tinkling of the piano. Then "Moon River" ends and they start moving around the floor. Some chatting, some sitting on the floor and removing slippers. "Come in. Here, wedge it open." The door is letting people in and out. "Hi, Larry. You alright?" "Yes, I'm good. I see you don't have a brace on, Paige." "Just can't leave the ground. No jumps or leaps. So, everyone here?" Taking...

Recommended Read Diana Discovers

Ballerina

Strong heart is beating in a harmony, Each movement set angelically with pride.   So subtle that it matches musically, To center stage exquisite form does glide On pointe, on tiptoe, swaying with the tune The wind caresses, gently singing free. So calm her soul, like summer days in June But every step is like a storm tossed sea Behind sweet lips and eyes, typhoons may hide, With calmness...
