About LarryFNigh

Writing is a passion of mine. As is the theater. Acting, singing, and dancing on stage are fairly newfound joys for me. They will get more of my time as I learn more about my craft.

I'm happy that so many have found pleasure in my poetry and stories. I hope to continue satisfying those who take the time and effort to dip into my writing.

If you're new here, welcome. Most of us are friendly around here. And open to forming new friendships. I know I am.

It's nice to know that I have published the most stories and poems here on our site. And I'm proud that my readers have made me the most viewed writer here.

Reg, imo, one cannot go wrong quoting lines by John Steinbeck or Raymond Chandler. ;)

<img src="/forum/images/emoticons/glasses10.gif" alt="glasses8">

I wrote my Master's Thesis in Geography using the geography used in Raymond Chandler's entire body of works. <img src="/forum/images/emoticons/icon_flower.gif" alt="flower">

"The free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about. I can understand why a system built on a pattern must try to destroy the free mind, for it is the one thing which can by inspection destroy such a system. Surely I can understand this, and I hate it and I will fight against it to preserve the one thing that separates us from the uncreative beasts. If the glory can be killed, we are lost."

“The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it, and it will in turn look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly kind companion; and so let all young persons take their choice.”
― William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair

Sunrise, Sunset

The first sunrise I lived through was in Arkansas. I was born in a small clinic in a small town called Mulberrry. My mother didn't live there. My parents had a rental house in another small town named Alma. But she was lucky enough to give birth to me in a modern facility rather than at home. Not long after that we started our movement around the country. My father's parents had followed...

Clicking on the return key, over and over. Changing the screen. Waiting for it to change.  News is posted online now so you wait for the change. Hitting the return key.  You did your best but never certain what to expect. Going back, again and again, always trying to make it. Wanting and needing to be part of it. This is what life is about. Anticipation. What you wait for and work for...

When Next the Goldenrod Blooms

Sunflowers had just started to bloom. And goldenrod. When first the seige began. Now I only cry alone. Even he won't see it. He musn't see it. It's his battle. Support the troops who go to war. It's a war for him. For us. And we may be losing. I don't want to talk to anyone. A few good friends. Sometimes. Sunflowers and goldenrod are in bloom again. Colors vivid and rich. Like...

Love is a Poem

Know euphoria, know the joy, Play with life as if it's a toy. "What did you say?" Childlike jubilance fills each day, petals of rapture line your way. "Please, for the love of all that's holy, leave me alone." Gaze at the stars, smell flowers bloom, dwell not on death, tomorrow's doom. "You mustn't call to me like this. Don't you understand, Go away." Love is the key to all of...

Let the Wind Caress Your Cheek

Let the wind caress your cheek When I am not here When I must be far away Knowing I will return if I may To touch you with my fingertips Once more Caressing your cheek The way that only I can Let the wind caress your cheek And dry the tears of loss When I am not here When I must be far away Let the wind caress your cheek Until my lips may kiss away your pain Until my love may wash away...

Come Lie With Me

Another liter of fluids infused. Another two hours. Tired. Leaning back. "Hello, dear. You were asleep again. You've been tired a lot recently. We may have to get you checked. Now lie back down. I want to feel your arms around me." A mockingbird was singing in the top of the tree. Loudly enough to be heard above the gentle, soothing sounds of the waterfall. The puppies were playing in...

After The Storm

The show went on. Billy Elliot the Musical had a run of six shows from February 24th through 27th, and March 3rd through 5th. We were sold out for all the performances. It was successful by anyone's measurement. And I completed the show.  We have a population of around 92,000 people in our town. Not too small, but even so it can seem rather small. One of the oncologists at my cancer center...

Winning The Prize

"That's him, Momma." Cindy points at Simon across the schoolyard. Her mother looks at him and smiles. He's pleased but not sure exactly why. He's the new boy in kindergarten. Some other boy tells him that Cindy likes him. What's that mean? Now her mother is visiting to pick up Cindy for something. She tells her mother he's her new boyfriend. He's glad, for some reason he can't...

Left-Handed Compliment

Sipping a cool soda on a hot summer day Reaching out to touch her left hand Paying her a left-handed compliment With grace, she pays it back My beauty My proud beauty Touching with the left hand of love Perfection Holding hands My right hand in her left hand Perfectly right for me And for her My little leftie of love Walking and talking  In grace and joy And tickling the palm of her left...

Bucket List

Ever notice the figure in the shadows? The world passes by. Each person passing is one more added to the bucket list. The list is simple. Whatever is seen, whatever is heard, whatever is smelled is added to the bucket. The huge bucket getting filled but never completely filled. Yet. The bucket list of the world. Keeps the world whirling along. It's all in the filling. Today's savior...

Stories Coauthored By LarryFNigh

Strong heart is beating in a harmony, Each movement set angelically with pride.   So subtle that it matches musically, To center stage exquisite form does glide On pointe, on tiptoe, swaying with the tune The wind caresses, gently singing free. So calm her soul, like summer days in June But every step is like a storm tossed sea Behind sweet lips and eyes, typhoons may hide, With calmness...
