Daddy's girl

I dedicate this poem to my wonderful dad.

Two fifteen one morning

To everyone's surprise

My daddy took me in his arms

And looked into my eyes

It was twenty-eight years ago

If I go back to the start

Dad cuddled up his newborn girl

I already won his heart

At five years old he made me laugh

On horseback, we would play

If I fell off, he would pick me up

To ride another day

At fourteen years my father said

I filled his heart with pride

He told me I looked pretty

That’s what he felt inside

At sixteen we would disagree

About clothes I thought were smart

Not always seeing eye to eye

But always heart to heart

Did you know I love my dad

Let me tell you why

He always says he loves me

I’m the apple of his eye

My dad has one ambition

He tells me with a smile

To have me hold onto his arm

As he walks me down the aisle

I’ll admit that I’m a daddy's girl

Well that’s what I’ve been told

He’s a daddy in a million

He’s got a heart of gold

I’m going to give my dad this rhyme

So my feelings I can show

I will love my dad forever

I just wanted him to know
