Every morning
I open the newspaper
Reading, observing
The human behavior 
Of our society

First section is all about politics
War, and crisis pictures fill the pages
Burning buildings, lifeless bodies
People enraged, seeking for revenge

Next section is sports
Enthusiastic fans cheering for their teams
Such devotion and passion 
For the simple joy of watching
A leather ball touches the net.

A reality show “star” is whining on page ten
About the on and off relationship with her ex
About her drama, her social life
Five million people follow her on twitter
More than those who care about the Uganda massacre

Then there are engagements and weddings
Pictures of young couples 
Dreams beginning, journey unfolding
Eyes sparking with happiness and faith

Page by page, I go through the world
Taking a journey through our human race
Joy of success, broken dreams
Heaven and hell
Life and death,

This is us
A civilization full of chaos and conflict
Hanging on the edge but never to fall
Because for each impending doom 
There is always hope

So, each morning
I open the paper
Reading, observing 
And guessing
For which destiny 
This world, our world, is heading
