Looking at old pictures back when we was kids,
Ragamuffins looking like we was on greased skids.

Clothes, most of the time, was hand me downs,
Making us all look like impoverished clowns.

I don't ever remember looking at us that way!
To me it was just how we lived every day!

Poor as church mice, never lived in a castle.
Houses so small they were often a hassle.

Having to share a bed just seemed to be the norm.
Snuggling with a sibling so each would be warm.

Some of the places we lived causing us to be ill.
Never in one spot long, moving again, never still.

The memories of those days so many I have blocked.
If others knew the goings on, they would be shocked.

Through it all the four of us kids had each others love.
To this day for that I am thankful to the stars above.

We have, despite things that we had no chance to control,
Stayed together, loving our brother and sister, heart n' soul.

Breaking the chains that hurt all of us we've been able do.
Things as a child we wished for, but weren't able to undo.

I am so proud of us all, we have risen above our raisin.
I love and care for you all deeply, ya know, just sayin.
