Hello my friend, you're getting old
Your hair is turning grey
You still don't show that in your stride
In how you face the day
You came to us, just skin and bones
A shaking bag of fear
You cowered down and hid away
If anyone came near
Your body marked with cigaret burns
So faster you would start
And win the race to make them rich
But you never won their heart
And when you slowed, could not compete
To win and make the day
They simply bought a younger one
And you were thrown away
You had some luck and you were found
By someone who could see
That there was so much more to you
Than fear and misery
And that is why you came to us
To become a member of
Our madhouse and our family
And to learn that thing called love
It took some time to win your trust
And to make you walk along
But slowly the real you returned
A dog, so proud and strong
Nine years since you became my friend
Your age begins to show
And I realize the end draws near
But it strengthens me to know
That our love has made you whole again
That you gave us back much more
All your love, your trust and your loyalty
Made me a richer man for sure
