Shame on Us
We use clever pictures, witty words,
And celebrity quotes to say the things
We are unable. Tragic moments bring
Out the worst side of us. There is no
Heart in what we say, only the conviction
Of what we believe to be true. Are we
Right? Does it matter in times like these?
The blood of innocent children had not yet
Turned cold and we proclaim our rights.
We are like a child too, guilty to the point
Where we have to make a stand before we
Are punished. We believe if we get to
Tell our side of the story first mom will
Believe us. But we are not our mom. We
Are not our dad. We are your fellow human
Beings. I’m not here to judge our cause,
Only our actions. Using the dead to
Further our idea is beneath us. There
Is no honor in this world anymore. A
Moment of silence grows shorter with
Each passing year. We have become
Desensitized to the point where we
No longer give respect to fallen heroes
And ones cut down before their time.
Do we not remember when something
Like this would bring us together? Now
It only serves to pull us apart even further.
We let politicians pull our strings to the
Point we no longer feel it. Division is their
Greatest weapon and we have fallen for it.
Our strength lies in our unity. Let’s never
Forget we are writing the future for our kids.
