About Anorakian

I'm a father of two beautiful (grown up) daughters and still remain married after 22 years. We both have to work to keep us fed, clothed and in shelter - both daughters are in higher education and in the UK this means no government support!

I retired!

Photography, digital art (trying to create it using Corel Painter and Photoshop Elements - and Photoshop CS5 recently) and of course reading (and attempting to write!).
Favorite Books:
So many! 'To Kill a Mockingbird' as an all time favourite, 'The Lord Of The Rings', the first two trilogies of Stephen Donaldson, 'Shardick' (Richard Adams), 'The Time Machine', 'The Lost World'....
Favorite Authors:
I dont really have favourite authors as I tend to like different works and not all of the works of a particular author.
Favorite Movies:
'Always', 'The Thing', 'Forbidden Planet', 'The Big Country', 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence', many thrillers like, for example, 'Along Came A Spider' and 'The Bone Collector'... it's a big list - but generally I like Murder mysteries, a good Ghost story, horror thats doesn't include visual gore (inferred gore is fine thanks!) and an occasional 'chick flick' like 'Love Actually' - and I enjoy a sad story that brings tears to your eyes (no need for a happy ending, as life isn't like that is it!).
Favorite Music:
It really depends so much on mood, doesn't it? Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Coldplay, My Chemical Romance...see what I mean?!

I'm pleased to say that I now have 4 short stories on Amazon, though I wish now I'd waited and and put them there as a collection (I might do that anyway once I have completed my rewrite of 'The Inn On Primrose Hill)

Anyway, this one is free for a couple of days - I had it on here originally so some might have already read it - a rating would be nice anyway!

It's on Amazon and it's called 'The Woodcutter's Son' - based on a well known fairy tale.

My author name on Amazon is Ian George, if you want to see my other stuff!

Thanks to this site, I really feel I am developing now - all started here.

"I have to report that retirement party preparations are now well underway...."
The impersonal rattle of my vintage telephone interrupts rudely, as it always does.
"Hello, yes, its me...yes...oh...oh...yes...oh...ah...ok..thanks...bye."
Click, tinkle.
"It seems that I have run out of money and need to sell a few more than the two."
Flushes and, hesitantly, wanders away...

The Door

The heavy oak paneled door was firmly closed, its shiny brass latch securely locked — until she had taken her eyes off it for a moment. She had turned away from the door to return the broom to its cupboard when a gust of wind blew a shower of rustling variegated yellow, orange, brown and red detritus at her back and into the hallway yet again. She turned and stared in open mouthed disbelief...

Has Anybody seen Him today?

God, are you there God? Things aren’t going well, I’m having a bad spell. The car is getting old, truth be told, it’s as old as you. It was slow to start this morning, then stalled without a warning, It has a light, that should have said, but it was dead. God, are you there God? My wife, she keeps complaining, she don’t like me profaning, She’s got too fat (she don’t like that), ...

Would such a God be worthy of our trust, Who took the iron in our souls and turned it all to rust? Who took our children from their mother’s breast, To cast them down with all the rest? Would he place that trust, himself, In other men, to spread with stealth? Or let them put down on the page, Their version of his truth, A truth that failed to grow with age? Would he have...
