About Brookell

OK, let's see. I am from the East Coast, a little tiny town you might have heard of . . . Brooklyn NY. Don't throw things, I live quite a bit North of the City now!

I love to read and I am into physical fitness as well. The main reason for that, aside from running in college, is I like to cook . . . and eat . . . and I don't want to have anything starting to orbit my butt!
Favorite Books:
JD Robb, Lord of the Rings, and lots of mysteries. I also love science fiction!
Favorite Authors:
Too damn many to name!
Favorite Movies:
Okay, this might give me away, but if it has Julia Roberts in it, I'm watching! Her smile just gets to me!
Favourite TV Shows:
I'm not huge into TV. I enjoy many British shows like Dr. Who and Broadchurch.
Favorite Music:
I love almost everything, but I have not been able to enjoy Rap. Hip Hop is wonderful, but Rap and I don't mix. I love powerful female voices most of all. Ever heard of Linda Eder? WOW!

I am not exactly a new member, officially I joined in June but hadn't logged in until this month. In June I thought of posting a few stories that had been rejected on the other site for not meeting their subject matter criteria, but things went haywire and I didn't have time so I backburned them. Just recently I had another rejection and the Mod suggested posting it here. So I'm back. Unfortunately, it wasn't appropriate for this site, which gave me a good laugh!

As for me, I am an IT geek by day and hopeful romantic by night. I work in a school system, half managing their networks and half teaching IT stuff to HS kids. I used to travel a lot for my job, but settled down and decided to stop living out of a suitcase. Now I live several hours north of where I was born, not far from some family and dear friends. I have my own small house and I am always doing something to it. Now that the weather has turned cooler, I think new shelves in the garage are my next project.

For fun, I love to get out and run or bike ride in the area. There are some great trails and back roads, plus enough hills to make a good workout. I have a real tight circle of friends and even with COVID, we've managed to see each other, although not nearly as often as we would in a normal year. I did a quick check on the bank accounts and noticed my spending on eating out, shopping, and the like is considerably lower than the past couple of years. So once things open back up, be warned, I have extra money in the bank aqnd a hankering to have some fun!

I also love to write, I have a pretty decent collection over on this site's sister site, but like I said I have some that don't meet their criteria, so I will be working on them and seeing how well received they might be here. I started writing due to a small case of attention deficit, and that combined with my OCD makes for some interesting mental discussions! ALthough in my defense, OCD should be spelled CDO because those letters are supposed to be in alphabetical order!

I also have a pretty skewed sense of humor and hopefully that will be evident after a few posts here. So there you have it, Brooke in a nutshell. If you want to know more, you are going to have to put on your big-girl panties and ask. You never know, I might even answer!

Brooke, North of NYC, and where 'normal' is a only dryer setting in her house!

Dream a little Dream

When she awoke, she was alone except for the cats.  She sat there and tried to capture the essence of what had to be the most marvelous of dreams.  Incredible characters, a fanciful story, danger, and friendships galore that felt remarkably real.  She looked in the mirror hanging on the wall for a clue as the black cat purred loudly in her lap while the white cat curled around her feet.  As...

Tis The Season

"I'm sorry Marge, I can't drive with you any longer." "Why not, Lois?  I thought we were friends?  Is it my driving?" "Yes, we are friends, good friends.  And no, it's not your driving." "Then what's the problem?" "You just had your car fixed, right?" "Yes!" "You went to the brake place down on Main St.?" "Sure, you even recommended them.  I got a very good deal" "I know, I know, but...

They Believe Him Now

The town mourned when he passed away and held a very large funeral.  He was survived by his wife, three children, and many grandchildren.  The officiant told his long life and the many changes he had brought to their town.  Suddenly a  dark shadow passed over the ceremony, the crowd stepped back as a large green dragon landed close-by.  The officiant told everyone to remain calm.  The...

She's Come Into Her Own

She wiped a smudge off her porcelain cheek. Her husband clapped her shoulder. "You were supposed to stay out of it." "I would have if the witch hadn't sent that dragon!" The neighboring Queendom thought the death of her step-mother was an opening to invade, she thought ruefully. "The men are starting to get used to you leading from the front! Your small friends were a huge help." "The...

Love Wins!

She sat on the beach watching her children playing in the surf.  She knew they were perfectly safe but also knew the dangers of the water all too well.  Her husband sat on the sand next to her, his arm around her shoulder comforting her and making her feel secure. "Do you ever miss it?" She looked a little wistfully as one of her sisters rose high in the water with her older daughter on...

The Queen Mother

The Queen Mother sat quietly as her daughter, the newly crowned monarch, presided over her first meeting of Parliament. She remembered her own first time, following the death of her husband the King. She knew her daughter was nervous, but also saw that she was doing well. She smiled to herself as she watched her daughter shut down one very conservative Lord with grace and tact, without...

He Aches No More

His joints ached, his vision wasn't great, and say nothing about his hearing because he won't hear you.  The stooped-over old man looked like a gnarled oak, but always had a smile for everyone.  Once there was a time he could have lived forever, barring an accident or a firewood shortage. He lived more within his memories than reality nowadays.  She re-appeared before him, as beautiful as...

One Disaster After Another

This year, amid multiple tragedies such as the Corona pandemic, record-breaking hurricanes and tropical storms, and an outrageous election — the entire airline industry was grounded. No, it wasn’t COVID-19, although that played a role in the many struggles by that industry. Even the grounding of Boeing’s 737 fleet didn’t have the reach of this latest disaster. This came from a...
