About Colors_of_the_Wind

Well, hello dearies. I seem to be back, kinda, I think. Welcome to my page if you've just found me through the newest Philena Flash. I have been writing for over a decade and I still come up with some crappy ideas and some wonderful ideas so I don't think that really goes away ever. My characters run around in my head all day, most of the time just making a ruckus nowadays, but sometimes actually yelling at me to write something. Philena is famous for that and as you can see, it can sometimes result in "masterpieces", haha.

I'm that writer that loves writing cliff hangers, but hates to read them. (Like all of us, I do believe)

I write realistic fiction that usually starts as an awareness piece and evolves into something larger, as well as poetry and the once-in-a-blue-moon song. I love reading fantasy, but have tried and don't really enjoy writing it, though I do enjoy supernatural, post-apocalyptic and the occasional romance.

As of late March, I now have a part time job at a burger joint though I do eventually want my little biz The Wandering Squirrel to be my only source of income so if you wanna support it, link is below! Currently there are only soaps available, but I'm working on reformulating our beard oils as well as some other skin-loving goodies and perhaps even some shave soap! We shall see.

In my personal life (what little I have of one at the moment), I'm currently ironing out the lore, language and backstory for a Supernatural fiction novel [or two or three] set on Earth but in a slightly alternative timeline, so you may see some bits and pieces as I figure out how to write those characters and such. Maybe. I'm mostly just trying to survive right now though. If they do come out be on a lookout for the titles White Eyes or Pure Heart. I've been working on them for as long as I've been writing which means I'm on reboot number I-don't-know. They may someday be published. Who knows.

Ally to many. I refuse to just sit around and watch while others get stomped on (without consent). If allies are needed, I'm standing amongst them. <3

Consult below for any other questions you may have, or message me. I don't bite [much].

Music is Love <3

•Creating in General, but especially: Writing, Character Creation, Fragrances, Soapmaking, Cosmetic Potions, Baking, Cooking, Cocktails and currently reading up on Canning.

I've always loved spreading awareness because ignorance breeds bigotry and hatred and there's too much of that in the world as it is.

I enjoy the outdoors; hiking, camping, just sitting around a fire and chatting with people.

Psychology and Criminology are interesting to me as is Anatomy, though I don't believe I could make careers of these.

I love history, because there's always something to be learned from others' past mistakes.

I adore tattoos, colorful hair and all the funky fun things in life and I DREAM of traveling the world <3 I have lots of plans and I hope I get to at least half of them :D
Favorite Books:
A lot. I love books, okay? But my current favorites are:

•Resistance by Jennifer A. Nielson; a historical fiction novel set in Nazi Occupied Poland from the point of view of a Jewish courier for the resistance.

•In Another Time by Caroline Leech; historical fiction novel from the point of view of a young lady in the Women's Timber Corp, set in Scotland during WW2.

•Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling. The author may be a no-good TERF, but the series & its characters will always have my heart.

•Looking For Alaska by John Green; a YA novel.

•13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher; a YA novel. This one has a bad rep and while I understand that side, I read it at my lowest point 11 years ago and it brought me out of it. I also see it as a great way to start tough conversations [in safe spaces!] because it doesn't shy away from the gruesome events that can happen to *anyone*.

•Alex & Eliza: A Love Story by Melissa de la Cruz; Set in the years of the American revolution, the courtship of Eliza Schuyler with one Alexander Hamilton. YA Historical Fiction. Also, apparently, book 1 of 3. I finished this one in a day so I'm just going to *runs off to buy the other two*.

•Any other Historical Fiction novels you wanna recommend!

Favorite Poets: Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Alan W. Jankowski (or as we knew him, DirtyMartini) <3

I also have a couple favorite non-fiction pieces, all of which seem to be memoirs:

•Being Ana by Shani Raviv
•Denial: A Memoir of Terror by Jessica Stern
•Night by Elie Wiesel.
Favorite Authors:
I love a lot of them, but my favorites are:

•Stephen King, of course
•John Green
•Rachel Caine
•Ellen Schreiber
•Anne Rice
Favorite Movies:
SO MANY. But I'm gonna limit myself to six:

•The Invisible Man; a woman finally escapes her abusive partner and then he dies... and things get weird.

•Fern Gully; fae & a bat with Robin Williams' voice protect the forest from being cut down by humans and destroyed by evil.

•Mulan; animated and 2020 remake. The remake is meant to be closer to the actual Legend of Hua Mulan and is a beautiful story of loyalty, honor, bravery and empowerment.

•I Am Malala; one fierce girl against the Taliban. A documentary/memoir.

•Midnight Sun; A love story under moonlight from the point of view of a girl with Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP).

•The Age of Adaline; A woman who thought she was forever frozen at the age of 29 & who has lived a solitary life (save one lovely friend and Flemming, her daughter) for nearly eight decades finds true love again for the first time in half a century. This time, she chooses not to run but to stay.
Favourite TV Shows:
Many, many, many that I love watching. Current Favorites, tho:

•Cursed; Fae people including Merlin vs religious wackjobs killing everyone

•Crazy Delicious; think food competition meets Willy Wonka's factory!

•The 100; 100 kids sent to the ground (Earth) and everything that happens after.

•Lucifer; he's the Devil but he's tired of running Hell & torturing bad guys all day, so he takes a vacay to LA.

•Grey's Anatomy; the best medical drama out there that actually has medical personnel on its board to keep everything mostly realistic.

•Hannibal; hannibal the cannibal who works with the federal agents and doubles as a shrink. What could go wrong? [Everything]
Favorite Music:
I'll listen to nearly anything, so if you have suggestions, send them to me.

Current favorite songs change by the DAY and sometimes by the hour, but I've been loving:

•Melon Cake by Demi Lovato

•Undercover by Milck

•Fight Back, Badass & Dangerous by EFFEX

•I Want to Break Free by Queen

•No Judgement by Niall Horan

•nearly everything by Ashe

•Battle Symphony by Linkin Park

•Middle Finger by Bohnes

•Funky Town by Lipps Inc

•Boys Will Be Boys by Dua Lipa

•Unbreakable by New Years Day

•Homebody by Valley

•Please Don't Say You Love Me by Gabrielle Aplin

Topic: Writer's Block Club
Posted: 25 May 2021 00:05

Alright, I'm writing a dystopian fiction novel. I know the next big event and around when it'll happen but between now and then the main character is basically just recuperating and training. I want to share some of that with readers because it is a vital piece of the story in its own way, but I don't want it to drag on either and I've never really written a story where the character needed to heal prior to moving on with their goals. They may have needed to finish other smaller goals first, but it was never a big pause between point A and point B.

I'm currently dealing with a block related to writing that "pause" in a way that still keeps a reader engaged and allows them to learn more about each character as well.

Any tips?

Topic: New OED Words: to use or not to use?
Posted: 24 May 2021 23:50

So one: I think it's very odd to see words that were "new" when I was younger and in school be added to the dictionary as actual words, haha.

Two, unless I had a character that they fit, I can't see myself using this in a story and even there only in dialogue.

That's not to say that they shouldn't or couldn't be used in the right genre or story "mood" I suppose, just that they wouldn't fit in my realistic or dystopian fiction preferences. Many of mine are set in alternate timelines or in the future, so do I come up with fictitious slang from time to time? Absolutely. But these wouldn't fit the mood or setting of any of my stories in particular.

I do, however, use awesomesauce on a regular basis myself even though I never used it when it was a popular word to use :D

My favorite love story of this century!

Yes! Pleasantly surprised to see that you also enjoy this movie. Definitely one of my favorites as well.

As for my answer to the above question, I do believe I've watched Midnight Sun well over 5 times now.

https://upload.storiesspace.com/1017325215-midnight sun.jpg

It's sad (like, red eyes and an abundance of snot sad), but for those of us that like to know if the disease in the movie is real or not (me, I am one of those people) it helps bring awareness to one that I hadn't heard about before, abbreviated to XP - Xeroderma Pigmentosum... basically an extreme sensitivity to the sun. One's body, with XP, cannot repair their DNA after coming into contact with the UV rays in sunlight, resulting in an extremely high chance of developing skin cancer and various other issues. It's also a really cute love story. If anyone reading this also liked The Fault in our Stars or 5 Feet Apart, this one should probably also be on your list.

Regretfully, I've not read much these last few years outside of research for writing or cosmetics, but there is a part from a recent Dua Lipa song that really stood out to me as soon as I heard it.

"Sick intuition that they taught us so we won't freak out
We hide our figures, doin' anythin' to shut their mouths
We smile away to ease the tension so it don't go south
But there's nothin' funny now.

Topic: Writing A Court Scene
Posted: 11 Aug 2017 02:31

Hey y'all. It's been a while since I was on here. I've recently started writing the sequel to my Tomorrow story. Philena is doing as well as can be expected in this sequel. I've written the first chapter which is quite a bit longer than I thought it would be and now am on to the second where I feel I must describe the legal process she is going through with her step father, but I've never written anything of the sort.

I was wondering if any of you may know, whether from experience of being in a court room in one role or another or just from writing a lot of crime stories, the order in which one may go. Who will speak first? Will they try him for her mother's murder and all the abuse she's suffered in the one go or no? What kind of questions will they ask, both the prosecution (her side) and the defense (his side)?

As always, if there are any tips or extra details/info you can offer me, I certainly welcome it.

Thank you :)

Philena - Everybody Gets High

The skunky but delicious smoke fills this little corner of campus, exiting my lungs only once it's done its job. I feel the calming weight fall over my anxious brain almost immediately and glance down at the tiny joint in my hands, surprised by its secret potency.  "Miss Xanderson!" I grab one more big hit before stomping the lovely little thing beneath the heel of my combat boot and...

Out of Time

Scoot Or you'll get the boot Or maybe the knife Or maybe the noose Perhaps we'll just cut out your life Or throw you off the caboose Some people take forever to decide Between all the choices we give them So by the time they choose, they've died And we've turned their skin into an item... Tick tock Watch the clock What will you do Now that we've caught you? Call us crazy, Call us gone,...

Save Their Innocence: A Musing

“Somebody!” “Please!” “Please, somebody !” The screams fill my ears as I watch the news video play out. The gunshots punctuate every cry with a hollow shout. My heart beats like a hummingbird’s wings with the knowledge that if we do not fix this - if this just keeps going and we don't change something in our system - my nieces could have to worry about this when they go to school. Her hands tremble, running through her hair in an anxious gesture. The alien four walls around her seem to be pressing closer the longer she stays here; compressing all of the echos of words, all of her stray thoughts, all of her fear into her tiny little bubble. Her icy calm exterior begins to crack where the warmth of little fingertips traces. The signs of it melting trickle down her face...
