About curvygalore

Biography

I'm a voracious reader and enjoy writing too. I particularly enjoy all things historical, both factual and fictionalised.

Name:
curvygalore
Sex:
Female
Interests:
I enjoy books, movies, music, yoga, walks by the sea. I love to cook and also I'm lucky enough to enjoy a busy social life. Most of all, I live to dance.
Favorite Books:
Far too many to list! One of my faves is 'Roaring Boys' by Judith Cook. She brings Shakespearian London to vibrant life!
Favorite Authors:
Depends on my mood: but anything from Jane Austen to Dorothy L Sayers to Phil Rickman and anything and everything in between and before and after.
Favorite Movies:
Fave genre would be film noir, also anything from Powell & Pressburger. I do love film in general, but the only genres I would avoid would be rom coms and musicals (shudder). Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
Favourite TV Shows:
Usually dramas and history programmes. I'm particularly enjoying The Last Kingdom currently, which is an adaptation of the Bernard Cornwell series.
Favorite Music:
Almost everything, especially if I can dance to it!

Topic: Publishers Always Open To Submissions

The site you mention, Authors Publish, is brilliant for getting news of submission calls, including flash fiction and poetry. Some of the publishers pay too. I've recently signed up for email alerts, just to see whats out there. Thank you for bringing the site to my attention <img src="/images/emoticons/icon_smile.gif" alt="icon_smile">

Ooh! I'll check that out too!

Thank you Helen and Rumps!

Topic: What are you reading at the moment?
Posted: 24 Jul 2017 12:35

Prompted by the current tv series I'm reading the Poldark novels by Winston Graham.

I'd forgotten how well-written they are and I'm finding them such an enjoyable read; a perfect balance of great characters and relevant historical detail. He really brings late-eighteenth century Cornwall vividly to life.

Roses are Red

Kate stumbled down the neatly raked path, her glasses steamed up with the heat of raw emotion and half-blinded by tears. She trusted she would find her way to her favourite spot in the Walled Garden if she were blindfolded, or even in the pitch dark. That was if the entrance hadn’t been barred by solid metal doors at nighttime. It was as though she was led by a homing device to her place...

A Glimpse of Heaven

Perched on a craggy outcrop, staring out to sea, the priest opened his mind and his heart to God. In such wild and lonely places, he felt closest to his Maker and His divine word. He was not a young man, and knew his role as a travelling preacher, bringing God’s message to those isolated enough to be those starved of it, would not last forever. Previously, he could put in a day’s march in...

Dancin' the Blues

Dancin’ the blues Is a complicated business; First, you focus on the rhythm, Then you try to feel How your partner moves, Fumbling to sway with his groove: Most of all, you strain to blend with All the glory of That music, In three or four pressurised minutes, When you concentrate intensely On all these elements.   If you can surrender To the beat, your partner, That music, ...
