About DannyX

I am a 20 something European girl, currently working in the fine arts business. I enjoy writing, and hope to contribute some new and original work to the site. I have a weakness for penguins and I would love to own my own sanctuary one day. I am also a Sherlock Holmes nut and enjoy discussing the canon with like-minded people.

Banned for getting coffee in the sugar pot

i am something of a badge hound and try to collect all the badges i can but not being a writer i will never get one of those. the thing is there are a few that seem unattainable here at ss especially the famous member badge. you need 100,000 views for this one, the same as on the sister sight but there are only about 3000 members here compared to the 300,000 there. couldn't you lower the views a little?help

Tell me about it. Coming here is like a parallel universe compared with the other site. Still it's kind of refreshing.

Is this supposed to be the number 76?

Yes. It's a song...

Seventy-six trombones led the big parade
With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand.
They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuo-
Sos, the cream of ev'ry famous band.

Seventy-six trombones caught the morning sun
With a hundred and ten cornets right behind
There were more than a thousand reeds
Springing up like weeds.
There were horns of ev'ry shape and kind.

There were copper bottom tympani in horse platoons
Thundering, thundering all along the way.
Double bell euphoniums and big bassoons,
Each bassoon having its big, fat say!

There were fifty mounted cannon in the battery
Thundering, thundering louder than before
Clarinets of ev'ry size
And trumpeters who'd improvise
A full octave higher than the score!

Day 73

At first it was scary, Dunkirk spirit and all that. But at least there was the saving grace of novelty, Walking for an hour a day, my daily exercise with the dog on a lead, suddenly I knew how she feels Then there were the mile long queues at Tesco, the empty aisles and barren shelves, Suddenly the staples were like gold dust - toilet rolls, bread and milk. And plain flour - that's a joke!...

No Glory

No glory, only pride You played your part in a theatre where so many died On foreign soil, a strange language Memories of the old country in your heart Again and again you took to the air I can barely imagine your bravery The noise, the engines, guns If you were afraid, I understand Then to return to find your best friend gave his life The hollow victory, the pain Then the end came...

Ower the haugh and yont a glen there is a bonny dun Where the corbie flies agin the sky, afore the setting sun,   Wi talloun and cracklings we sit doon and have a little drink And efter a wee heavy or two, we heat up a Cullen Skink,   It'll tek ye frae all ye woes, nae matter what th' weather On the fair, we'll coorie doon, and make love among the heather   No one but ye, my love...

A gift from afar

A carpet of frozen snowflakes doth lie Among the grass, icy dew dissolves, The fractals, each one unique and fleeting Colours, a prism in which the light evolves   A little bird, ‘gainst a thorn his breast yields Hark! His winter song, his feathers are rent Blood from his heart, soak’d that we may see On crimson path, the winter – heaven sent   Nought but the silence of the...

If I had wings...

The olives and the ochres of withered blades, Of conkers and hazel all through the glade Dark evenings, too soon the clock going back, Squirrels secreting their nutty snacks A ring of fairies dancing on the lawn, Appearing in the early dawn     The cool breeze brings a dash of rain, Like tears on the window pane A double rainbow a lucky sign? Still no evading autumn time   ...

Goldilocks and the Three Pigs

Once upon a time in a land not so far away there was a girl named Žaneta, who was known to her friends as Goldilocks, on account of her beautiful long hair that was as yellow as a buttercup.    One sunny day, Goldilocks awoke to a snorty squeaky noise coming from under her window. She was used to funny occurrences, and she wondered if the day would lead to an adventure.   Goldilocks was...
