Happy Tuesday, Everyone! Still working on my story (Queen of Back Bay) and working out the final ending details. It's hard to know where to end. I read the Kurt Vonnegut (one of my favorite writers) recommends starting the story as close to the end as possible. I think I did that much, but where is the end!? I may have figured it out this morning. Just need to put it on paper now. Hope everyone else is enjoying their coffee!

Good luck. I am having trouble even getting one started these days. If you're posting here, may want to look at breaking it into 2-3 chapters, BTW. People seem to prefer shorter bits on SS these days.

Yeah, I noticed short posts get more traffic. If I have future stories, I'll keep that in mind. This is my only story at this point. I used to think that in order to have a story, I would need to know each character, have a complete outline of events, and make that framework before beginning. This time, I had an idea and a basic outline in my head. I know benchmarks I need to reach along the way, but the details and people are coming to me as I write. It's a very organic process that I'm finding a lot of fun. I get to watch the events unfold as if I'm watching it on television. I even find myself wanting to know what happens to them in the next scene!

Good Morning Everyone!

Just sitting with my coffee reviewing my writing. Up to 11,300 words now. I have the whole plot in my head, just working out the details to make the events flow smoothly. I've been hoping to call it a novel, but I'll be lucky to get to 20,000 words. The story will decide how long it is, but I feel the need to go back and flesh out some scenes. Hope you're all doing well!

Greetings, Larry and all ships at sea. Me, I got a late start today (well, slower than usual) so I'm trailing you in the mugs consumed category. Thanks for reminding me about Darron. IMO, he has the potential to be a first-rate fiction writer once he has mastered a few of the storyteller's tricks.

BTW1, let me know what you think of Grammarly.
BTW2Has the new multi-chapter feature you and Gav worked on been ported to SS?

Now let me empty the coffee pot and I'll get another one cranking.

Well that's encouraging! Thanks for the kind words! This is literally my first time writing fiction, and you're viewing a virtually unedited copy, so there's only one way up from here. Once I get the whole story out, I will definitely go through it all with a fine toothed comb. Thanks again!

I'm just sitting here thinking about my story about MIT while the reputation of MIT is getting trashed by its association with a convicted pedophile. How's your day?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site since I started writing my first story. I'm happy to hear what you think about it. If you're interested, It's called The Queen of Back Bay, a story about a student who has an eccentric uncle. I can't seem to make links in here, so tips on that appreciated as well!

I can usually be found in Brockton or Cambridge, Massachusetts, but online I have a number of locations:

I thought I had heard of such sites, and after many years as a writer of other things, I finally decided to take on fiction. I wanted to find somewhere to workshop ideas and get feedback. I searched for: writers spaces and stories space came up. I didn't actually find any others.

The Queen of Back Bay

Henry Walker Wainscot stood leaning against the stone wall in the foyer of his new dorm while waiting for his mom. They were going to have lunch in the cafeteria, then explore the city. Henry had never really been to Boston, having grown up in Western Massachusetts. In cow country, he liked to think, although the three cows were more of an agricultural front for a toxic waste dump. It...
