YES!!!! One of my favourite pieces of music ever. The way the guitar and sax interplay in the second half is fabulous. Apparently, they didn't know the tape was still running and just carried on playing into what became a jam. One of their finest moments in my view.

I think Anna? posted about Natalia Tsarikova upthread a while ago. She's a Russian soprano who trained in Italy and now resides in Finland. Excellent voice. She is probably best known for covers of bands like Nightwish but this is an original song by Finnish songwriter Juha Alanampa who also produced.

I was listening to a contemporary of theirs on my walk today. My Winter Storm was Tarja Turunen's second solo album after she parted ways with Nightwish. This song also made its way on to her "best of" compilation last year.

The Call of Eden by the independent Austrian Symphonic metal band, Edenbridge.

Just found this band through a Youtube recommendation. Not sure what it is that grabbed me about them. They aren't really my usual, even in my pre-metalhead days, but I am quite enjoying them.

I was enjoying this until the chorus. Yet another potentially good song ruined by pointless expletives.

Someone twigged me to this on another site. Interesting punk spin on the Melanie hit "Brand New Key". The band is a husband and wife team on guitars and bass/vocals respectively plus a drummer.

The new soundtrack album from The Last Kingdom is released today by John Lunn and Eivør Palsdottir.

This is Falling Free, live from Eivør. Although not from the aforementioned album, it shows what a fantastic artiste she is.

I didn't but I am not surprised. Nightwish has just announced a new album for next year and no more touring.

Yeah, the no more touring part has caused some upset, but with Floor touring more and more in her solo work, maybe that will mollify at least some folks. And they said "indeterminate" which often means "until we feel like doing it again". And there is a short European tour happening in June, mostly close to home, including a concert in Kitee, Finland, hometown of the original band members.

That said, I'm more pissed than ever that I had to pass on seeing them in Toronto last year. First gig of the North American tour was in TO on my b-day. However, I had a medical appointment in town that day that was cancelled too late for me to get a ticket and make the trek.

Me too. I could have seen then in Munich last December.

Finally got around to 72 Seasons, the new Metallica album. Enjoying it so far. They were actually the first metal band I would say I liked. Not loved (at the time), not even a fan per se, but liked enough of their music to pay attention. Songs like "Enter Sandman", "One", "Nothing Else Matters" definitely slipped on to my soundtrack and likely helped prime me for my later engagement with the metal genre.

Here is something a little different. The new single from a fantastic swing quintet, Elle and the Pocket Belles.

Nothing like hearing two favorite musicians team up. Here we have a track from It's All True, the new album from singer-songwriter-actress Malinda (full name; Malinda Kathleen Reese), that has violinist Mia Asano as a featured guest artist. Mia toured with Malinda last year so no surprise to see her on the new album.

Sigh. Another one of the greats is gone. Gordon Lightfoot, the pride of Orillia, Ontario and one of the best songwriters of his generation, has died at 84. What a career. I have been listening to a compilation of his first four albums and there's deep cuts that I had forgotten about that are easily as good as the hits. Anyhow, this is one of his best, and best-known, songs.

So sorry to hear of his demise. This was always a great favourite of mine.

Well, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced 2023 inductees and, while I am bit cynical about things like this, the first name in the first list of them that I saw sure got my attention: Kate Bush. I discovered Kate early in her career via her being an early adopter of music video as a way to promote her music and have stuck with her since. She was probably the first of many female singer-songwriters to have attracted my attention, too.

(Actually, Joni Mitchell was the first, I guess, then Kate).

I was introduced to the music of Joni Mitchell fifty years ago, when I was a teenager, by my cousin. She had such great musical taste. The album she put on for me was Blue. I've been a fan ever since.

Santana - She's not there.

The Dark Side of the Moon (the cover band, not the album) dropped a new song ahead of their album release tomorrow. Guest singer Fabienne Erni joins lead vocalist Melissa Bonny in a terrific performance. I love this band and am eager to hear the full album tomorrow.

Charlotte Wessels is the former lead singer of Dutch symphonic metal band Delain, now a solo artist with two fantastic albums out. Zora Cock leads the band Blackbriar. Zora's band is currently doing some shows with Charlotte on her solo tour, so the two singers teamed up for a duet cover of Ghost's "Mary on a Cross". This is the studio version, but they are doing the song live in their concerts, too.

Oddly, while I listened to a lot of Vangelis back in the day, I never listened to Aphrodite's Child until after his death. Found a nice set of them.

Yeah, yeah, Melissa Bonny again, this time as a guest herself with Danish band Pyramaze. Nice power ballad. Need to look into this band more. Lead singer is pretty good (though per Wiki he is their third, haven't heard his predecessors).
