About LarryFNigh

Friendship is incredibly important to me. I'm completely loyal to friends and family. I will accept (almost) all friend requests.

Writing is a passion of mine. As is the theater. I was the first person to achieve the Omnium Badge, writing in all categories here, before it was even a badge.

I served as a petty officer in the Navy. I served as a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard.

I'm happy that so many have found pleasure in my poetry and stories.

My Bachelor of Arts degree is in English. That's helpful in writing, for sure. My real love in life was the world at large, including culture, history, geology, and anthropology. So I went ahead and finished a Master of Arts degree in Geography. I was able to use it for a period of time working in the Census Bureau, helping to create maps.

It's nice to know that I have published the most stories and poems here on our site. And I'm proud that my readers have made me the most viewed writer here.

Writing, traveling, the theatre

One can easily see that writing has consumed a goodly portion of my time recently. Here on our site I have over 400 pieces.

The theatre has also given me a great deal of pleasure. I've made efforts to become a triple threat on stage. My last lessons were in ballet last fall. During the past five years I've appeared in seventeen plays and productions.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure you do not misspell a word in the title of your story or poem. Please, please. This is so important. I just sent a message to a poet on another site whose poem had the word "something" in it, but it was spelled "somthing." Helen's great advice above would have probably helped to avoid this kind of error along with tons of others.

Give me a reason

Life is meaningless. There is no reason. No reason to be here. You told your first grade teacher you loved her.  You made someone smile every time you appeared. You touched the head of a child weeping for her lost dolly. You adopted a pet from the animal shelter.  You hugged your friend when she came out as gay. You rubbed the feet of your passing mother. Now, as you look...

Just Your Smile

It's really just the smile That tells it all. A smile that seems transcendent To our core. Complete fulfillment,  Existential bliss  For every beating heart that feels its Glow. A happy smile of joy and sweet delight That spins our moods from blueness   Into glee. To utter satisfaction with this life. Such smiles Are bringers of a glowing light. Of sunshine,  Exultation for  Each life. ...

Recommended Read The Hotline

"National Suicide Prevention Hotline. Project semicolon; please remember." A voice is pleading. "What did you say?" The question is uncertain. "National Suicide Prevention Hotline." A voice replies with more force. Hesitantly. "What is it?"  "One eight zero zero two seven three eight two five five." Again. "One eight zero zero two seven three eight two five five." Once more. "One eight...

In Huckleberry Wine

In huckleberry wine they soared  Serenely and rhapsodically Among the gracefully delectable scents of lavender Tripping in pulchritude laden steps of bliss Singing out melodically trembling notes Spinning stunning arabesques of wonder Sipping ambrosial offerings From the goblets of the gods Touching hands Fingertips Beatific smiles of serenity To the veneration of all future desires ...

Youth Should Never Fade

They signed up for dancing class at an arts center. Once a week. They volunteered for the tech crews at a theater. When time allowed.  They wrote poetry to read at open mic nights. Every so often. They hiked the pathways of the earth. In life's time. They thought upon that life and it was good. What they had created was pleasing and meaningful. It was good.  They loved as...

Recommended Read Parlor Tricks

Uncle Jeff called them bear berries. That hadn't sounded right to Terrance. Now, so many years later, he recalled that long ago moment and curiosity finally lead him to search online. It didn't take long to find a picture of them. They were salmon berries. That was the succulent fruits he had found growing thickly and profusely on the briars out in the woods so long ago. He couldn't...

That Thing I Do

You know that thing I do You know that thing That sets your heart to beating Thump... thump... pounding pulse In time with mine That sets your legs to trembling Shake... shake... shivery quake In time with mine That sets your breast to heaving Sigh... sigh... shuddering breath In time with mine That thing I do So often when you writhe So close to where my fingertips May touch That thing...

The Circle of Life

"Okay, fine." "But, that's not what I said."  "Honey, it's what I heard. Let's just drop it for now." "Okay, but I meant that I understood what you said." "I don't want to upset you. I know you're not feeling good." "Really, I'm actually feeling great. Just the usual stuff, but it's fine, dear." "Well, I just want us to be clear." "We are clear. I feel that you're really upset with me."...

You Are The Starlight

You are the starlight in my starless night.  Moonglow is my wine of choice these days. But my eyes will slowly droop down and under the covers as the ersatz forgetfulness and sedation take me to my slumbrus abode. To my nightly home where I restlessly drowse, and we are together. Where the stars fill my heart, not the sky. They glitter on the backs of my eyelids. That is you. The...

Gentle, the Touch We Share

My darling at my side, she feels my giddy pride, The singing of the wheels a serenade As the touch of mystery joins we two together once again, Double digits frolic...            who knows where or when. Mariachi music infuses the air with lighthearted mirthful Whimsy, With exuberance, With prankish joy. The touch of the digits expands our gaiety galore...            much more and more....

Stories Coauthored By LarryFNigh

Strong heart is beating in a harmony, Each movement set angelically with pride.   So subtle that it matches musically, To center stage exquisite form does glide On pointe, on tiptoe, swaying with the tune The wind caresses, gently singing free. So calm her soul, like summer days in June But every step is like a storm tossed sea Behind sweet lips and eyes, typhoons may hide, With calmness...
