"Lies we tell ourselves to keep us living in fear"

You crept into my house in the black of the night

When my eyes were closed and my guard was down

You came to my bed and whispered lies in my ear

But I didn’t resist; your voice is soothing to ears that bleed

You weren’t invited yet decided to stay

Making a space for yourself at the foot of my bed

You’d feed me half-truths and rub my belly until I fell asleep

Then in the morning scold me for eating too much

You kept me inside, locked in a closet; bound and lying in my own filth

You told me not to fuss; that it was for my own good

‘Cause the outside was scary; full of monsters and devils

You convinced me that light was my enemy

Urging me to remain in darkness under the guise

That too much light would burn my eyes

You divulged all my secrets

Told my plans to my rivals

Gave rapists keys to my house

And sold me for pennies

Still, I held on to you; I believed in you

Even as I watched you changing;

Felt you changing me

But, time brings forth change

And truth finds its way

Light breeches the darkness

Night is suddenly Day

We’ve shared the same body

But not the same soul

Today, I reclaim power

You will surrender your control

I’ll kindly hold the door for you;

I’d advise you not to cry

Your crocodile tears no longer move me

To you, Fear, I bid goodbye!
