I was an 18 year old, chaste,

taught in my culture to marry, pure.

I prayed to be a good wife and

cherish a happy home.

My friend asked me to keep

a man away from her who

she knew would drag her back

to a pattern of her life before.

Marion is busy this evening

just chat with me for a while

then to take different path

is best for you.

I looked at my watch

after chatting politely

to this guy who had been

banished from our programme.

Ok, goodbye, be careful

on your trip home.

I’m sorry Marion did not

want to see you, you must go alone.

Returning to my room

I did not lock my door

our community felt trust.

I fell asleep quickly in my

Cosy nest

happy that I had helped a friend;

tired from working in the vineyard.

I was wrestled from my dreams

by this man.

Now it was time for me.

Get off, get off I cried.

A strong rough hand smacked

down on my face.

If you cry out I will let your

friends see your disgrace.

Broken I screamed at him to go.

Get out of my hut you woman

wrecker. He ran away and

I sat huddled face to the wall.
