Keep Counting...

The things we learn while walking to school...

Today, while walking my kids to school, I overheard my nine-year-old son ponder aloud to his younger sister, "I wonder if there are any swear words for butt."

Never one to ignore a teachable moment, I interjected that he indeed knew at least one. I then told him. Why? Because that's my job. We've been through this before.

His expression was priceless! He was in genuine shock. For some bizarre reason, and I do suspect the girl's meddling hand in this, he never thought ass was a known and celebrated profanity.

I then added that that word is another word he cannot say at school.

Do you hear that daughter of mine?

As we continued walking, he tallied, in his head, the number of swear words he thinks he knows. Four.

I, of course, laughed. He just doesn't know; he knows many more. I'll deal with each, one at a time.

Keep counting boy, keep counting...
