My Walk

Nature at it's best

I love going for walks in my hometown. It’s a very small town, but its natural beauty
is unbelievable. Words cannot do it justice. There is one particular nature trail that
I do enjoy taking whenever I get the chance.  It starts at the Horsebrook Trailer Park
and Campground that is located almost at the end of town, and it leads to a long dirt road.

During my walks one of the things I have noticed is the smell of the trees;
it’s really one of my favorite scents with the air being so fresh.
Along the way, there are some wooden benches where you can sit down for a rest or
just take in the sounds of nature, whether it’s a bird chirping or
a river flowing peacefully nearby.

As you reach the end of the dirt road, you arrive on a hill known as Fortune Head.
You can stand there overlooking the ocean and take in the tranquility of the scenery as the sun sets.  If you look up at the sky you may see a beautiful array of colors: red, orange, blue and even purple accent the clouds, making the ocean appear warm to the eye.

On a clear day, you can see the now deserted Brunette Island,
as well as the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon from the hill.
Turn away from the ocean, and you’d get a bird’s eye view of the entire town.
It has always amazed me to see how big Fortune really is.
When you see all the building’s different shapes and sizes scattered throughout
the town the glow of the streetlights highlighting them, you tend to realize,
how beautiful a town can truly be.

When the day has ended, and the night has finally begun the sky turns to dark blue,
almost black really.  The moon comes out; it is full and bright, making the stars looking like jewels in the night sky, and the cool air slowly encompasses you.
