Pieces

I am still whole. I recently saw a younger picture of myself at six. There aren't many pictures of me smiling as a kid, but I am beaming ear to ear. My smile is infectious and as bright as the sun.

I assumed incorrectly for eons that my destiny was taken from me, that fate had ruined my chance to be anything that I want to be.

I am grateful to know that I have much potential, the same or less as anyone else. My life is still a puzzle. My mind has hidden much and although I don't know the worst of what happened to me, I know I've had the resiliency to endure what no human being should ever endure.

I've lived in almost fifty places. I've lost best friends who left the earth too soon. My dreams have come true as I've seen my favorite performers sing. I've known joy and sorrow, loneliness and despair.

But hope is the most beautiful gem that I've ever carried.
