Ten Things to do

Lists, lists, lists: who needs them? Who ever follows through with them?

Ten things to do on a cold Saturday in May when it feels as though winter has returned, and the snow has fallen as low as 400 meters:

1: Drink your coffee from a pretty cup and saucer, rather than a mug.

2: Read some of your friends stories, then vote and comment on them.

3: Round up the stack of books you've been meaning to read, arrange them in order of preference, then lie down under a warm blanket and take a nap.

4: Wake up, go back to item 3 on the list. Start reading some of those neglected books. Stay where you were for the nap, stretched out under a warm, cosy blanket. see end note

5: Finally put down whichever book you settled on reading and discover there is not enough time to get through a list of ten things to do on a cold Saturday in May when it feels as though winter has returned, and the snow has fallen as low as 400 meters, because accomplishing item 4 on the list means the afternoon has melted away.

6: Contemplate the irony in item 5, maybe with eyes closed.

7: Forge ahead with the next item on the list: listen to some of the Podcasts you subscribe to and which are backlogged on your iPod. What will it be, an interview with a writer or a documentary about a rare manuscript from the 14th Century? Make choice, start listening, either using exterior speakers or ear phones, it's up to you.

8: Wake up with a start as the Podcast comes to an end and the announcer is thanking the person being interviewed. Wonder what you missed and if it is worth listening to at all, but earmark it for another day.

9: Glance at the clock, discover it's time to have a glass of wine and think about what to make for supper.

10: While sipping the wine, sit back down at the computer and muse over what a productive day it was after all: you have, in fact, accomplished everything on the list of 10 things to do on a cold Saturday in May when it feels as though winter has returned, and the snow has fallen as low as 400 meters.

11: Decide to round out such a productive day by leaving flowers on some profile pages. Yes this makes a list of 10 thing to do on a cold Saturday in May, when it feels as though winter has returned, and the snow has fallen as low as 400 meters, into a list of 11 items, but let's just call it the bonus for having successfully accomplished the other ten things.

note to item 4 - this is made even better if you are fortunate enough to have a cat snuggled next to you for warmth. It's not obligatory, just a pleasant option.
