You've already unmade one world
to tether yours to another,
all of the numbers and names,
a river's cold cleansing hush to me
of details far too dangerous to hold.

A lens cracking from the strain of trying
to see there has to be more to you,
instead of devotion turning
me into a cautious ghost,
blind to all of time's afflictions.

Unable to let anything else out or in,
so I just stay as a symbol
watching over you,
still and disrobed,
the sound of my love sleeping
ages away without my careful touch.

You're enough to unmake one world
to give yours to another,
while I cling to names and details.

Our hearts never the same but thundering as one,
locks of hair grazing my face like dark scented silk,
skin smoldering from the embrace promising
there has to be so much more to you.

Instead of love's legacy turning
us into sinking stones,
a chilled caress in phantom flight,
devotion blind to all of jealousy's afflictions.

Unable to let anyone else out or in,
I'm the symbols and touchstones
always staying near you,
still and unanswered,
the sound of my breathing,
of our fingers interlacing,
when the hush fumes from your pores,
the details far too dangerous for me to hold.
