Assassinate a friendship
Eviscerate a heart
Abrade a soul that trusted
When you chose to depart

You knew my fears
Where I was weak
You learned them over time
I couldn’t be the one you wished
More your fault than mine

You claim you made adjustments
There were some, I agree
Perhaps it was untenable
That a new "us" should be

But still I’m shocked and reeling
My anchor weighed and gone
A lost and helpless feeling
Farewell my comfort zone

I gave what I could give you
I understood the rules
What you wanted was untenable
And now I lose you too

You said you’d be a friend for life
But that’s not how this feels
It feels alone and desperate
Awake, in a bad dream.
