Smears of glowering grey
Roll smudged across the violet sky,
Dusk sinking to
Twilight sinking to
Star-studded velvet
Roiling night.
A whispered curse is a wraith in the pit,
Phantasms flying across the soul
Where emptiness weeps
And the echoes of pain
And the twisted limbs of
The fallen oak lie.
Gone are the gods of old in the forest
And dead are the nymphs who once kissed the earth,
And petrified now are the dreams of my hope
In this dying, decaying and dust-splaying
Heart.
