I will never leave you

I don't deserve you
You are far too gracious
To gift me with your love

A warm embrace
On a chilly February morning
When I least expected it
Three years ago, now almost four

We started off as friends
I arrived as frigid as a winter's day
With a coat of painted ice

It took long to dry the coat
Though I remained frozen
For quite a while afterwards

My mind was elsewhere
Dreaming up tales of adventure
Of having seen the unseen a world away

Though none of it was true
Though it pained me more to tell you
The pure and honest truth

For all the time it took to thaw
You held me close as it melted
And forgave my delusions of grandeur
And claimed the ice and chill as your own

I understood it was all for my benefit
To see that I regained my strength
You were my crutch until I could confess

When it came time for me to go
You wished to follow
And then to lead the way

Through the raging blizzard outside
One you knew better than I ever would
Until eternity, my sweetest one
