Love And War

There is a battle raging inside you,
It’s beating you down,
Until you forget which side you’re on,
You punish me with your internal war.

The war,
The constant tug-of-war,
Causing endless battles,
All between yourself,
And I’m caught in the middle.

The Middle,
Tearing you apart,
Tearing me down,
Tearing us apart.
The battle of do I stay or do I go?

Go,
Going, gone,
Such a small but powerful word,
It determines my life,
Not just yours,
Whatever you decide changes my fate.

Fate is what brought me to you,
But not the reason I’m in love,
And Lord knows how hard I love.

Love,
The most powerful emotion,
Hard and soft,
Lust filled,
All consuming,
Drowning in it.

Drowning in the overwhelming feelings,
Feelings of need, want, desire, an ache,
An ache to be filled by the other person,
The person that once made you feel complete.

Complete with your heart,
Full in your body and soul,
No part of you left untouched,
The missing pieces to your puzzle.

The puzzle now strewn upon the floor,
Swept away in a flurry of emotions,
The lost pieces once fitting so completely,
Now lay in a broken mess.

Mess is what is left behind,
Left for me to pick up and sort through,
Left for me to see what can be salvaged,
Left for me mend.

Mend,
To make whole,
To set things to right,
Is that even possible?

Possible possibilities,
Of something real,
Something better.

Which side of you will win?
Which will decide?
Does our love grow,
Or does it die?
