Any day like today

Yesterday or

Tomorrow.

A lonely long sidewalk.

Music

Contained inside black shells

Against your head.

The same steps you’ve walked

Your entire life.

Notes building, gentle.

Gliding sounds stringing

Your childhood from birth in a

Rushing creek of experiences.

A vision never seen before.

One step, two step, three.

Breathe more, here it comes.

The heartbreak floating beside

The winning race like

Sisters separated at birth.

The kiss that shook mountains.

The glance that dripped evil.

The words that got you over it.

The cigarette you held when you knew.

The tears that dried up.

The soft skin she pressed against you.

No plank on this March,

Nay, this sidewalk turns to brick

An uninterrupted mirage of life

Coming alive as

An endless stream of memories.

Over.

The memories turn to city sounds and

Footsteps.

I feel like I forgot to do something today.
