One World, One Sorrow

One more poem, love found, love lost,
One more heartbreak, counting the cost,
One more woman refused her prize,
One more man with tears in his eyes.

They get understanding sorrow,
They get hopes for their tomorrow,
They get friends to share in their grief,
They get promises of relief.

These are the things written about,
These are the things that count, no doubt,
These are the words, these are the acts,
These are the works relating facts.

May one ask a simple question?
May one make a mere suggestion?
May one ask you all to ponder?
May one ask your minds to wander?

Look at the world, look at despair,
Look at children needing our care,
Look at women raped, put to shame,
Look at species killed, but no blame.

We have a world losing to greed,
We have a world starting to bleed,
We have a world, only the one,
We have a world, will we have none?

Could you dream about a new way?
Could you dream about a new day?
Could you dream, do you think you might?
Could you dream, standing strong for right?
