Pretend

Been there, done that . . .

Act as though you love me
I’ve been fooled before
I’m sure with little effort
You will make me yours

Pretend you are devoted
That I’m your only one
Break down my defenses
Quell my urge to run

Assure me of your ardor
Talk of future plans
Drink in my affection
Tell me you’re my man

Let me know the comfort
Of feeling so secure
And before I know what hit me
Slither out the door.
