The Eternal Twins

Since the dawn of time
Before poets learned to rhyme
They have remained together yet apart
Fighting for supremacy in every being’s heart.

One is dark like the night,
Whose first instinct is to fight
The other is bright like the stars
Whose light shines from afar.

The yin and yang, the moon and sun
Countless stories of them have been told and done
A set of opposites, of dark and light twins
The obvious question is: Who will win?

One battles for glory, riches, and power
Your morality and compassion he will devour
The other fights for truth and love
Ambition will vanish if this one is above

Many forget they need both within their hearts
In perfect balance, they are together yet always apart
An equality of greed, ambition, and power
In an equilibrium of kindness, morality, and flowers.

Each plant, each dog, being, and you
Have a battle to fight, and something to do
If the white one wins, there would be no light
For you cannot have black without white.

No, there is no black without white
No peace without fight
No truths without hate
No earliness with someone being late.

Remember this on your path
For as it was said, it hath
“The one that wins is the one you feed,”
Said an old Cherokee to someone who might have been devoured with greed.

So fight until your heart is true
When balance is achieved inside you
Peace will reign on this war-torn Earth
When you know what you are made of, and what you are worth.
