The Man Goes Shopping — But Not at the Store

For my favorite clotheshorse...

The man called out — there was something to see!
Quickly the wife pondered what it might be.
His voice held not a hint of worry or stress.
Indeed, was that a tone of happiness?

Following the sound she’d find no dire plight,
As into her view came a farcical sight.
"Like my new look?" he asked, preening and proud.
She stifled a laugh: "For crying out loud!"

Clothes loose as the trappings of a teenage gangster,
Yet he looked less ‘hoodlum’ than ‘comical prankster.’
He hitched up his jeans; they promptly slid down.
A shirt that once fit now fell like a gown.

"I've nothing to wear!" he proclaimed with glee.
"Yes you do," said the wife, "just follow me."
She trooped ’cross the hall and stepped back for the show.
Clothes that ”had shrunk" were stashed high and low.

His eyes grew wide at the plentitude disclosed —
(Though unaware still more had been disposed.)
He found shirts, sweaters, jeans, and dress slacks galore —
Even some trousers he'd once tossed to the floor.

He tried on togs as for a modeling gig,
Eagerly packing up those now too big.
Like the man, his wardrobe became leaner.
(And with all sorted out, the closet was cleaner.)

He flashed a sly smile that made her heart melt;
She clearly adored him, portly or svelte.
Size mattered not, nor did penchant for fashion,
If they laughed, loved and lived with gusto and passion.
