I wasn't prepared
To love you
I wasn't prepared
To stay

I've tucked, and I've rolled
Myself through
The lion's share
Of my days

One foot out the door
Purse in my hand
Keeping all parts of me

Watching for signs
That things have gone south
Ready to make
My escape

So let me stand
At the threshold
Still in
But not far from out

Accept I'm my best
Close to freedom
Rather than harnessed
In doubt.
