You're So Selfish

"When I said good morning, I was lying. I was truly thinking of how I might quit waking up. He pointed out how selfish it would be to kill myself, so I keep waking up..." Flyleaf, Much Like Falling

She looks up at the light,

lying in her bed.

She closes her eyes again,

wonders what lies beyond.

Would it be easier?

Her eyes travel to the closet,

that shelf hides numbness.

Her mind travels to the feeling,

all that bad being let out.

The Too Much leaving.

Her legs leave the bed,

feet touching down.

She walks toward that door,

open it, enter, shut it.

Grab that box.

She brings it down to her level,

takes the lid off.

Her hand reaches into there,

grabs the blade, lifts it out.

If you do this, you're selfish.

The voice says,

You're no better than him.

She puts it back, walks away.

Her hands shake, tremble at her side.

She crumbles to the floor, eyes tear up.

Her head lands on her folded legs, and she breaks.

I've had enough...
