Sometimes, famous people or artists have a "Thing". They are known for only practicing their art whilst somewhere special, or wearing something, or doing something as they do it. If you know what I mean?
If you had a Thing as a writer, what would it be? I quite like the idea of only writing whilst wearing my Lucky Wellies (and all my other clothes, obviously, although some of you may choose to have your Thing as being naked - or indeed, be able to see your Thing). It's not practical (the Wellies, I mean), as I usually write whilst I'm in bed, but maybe one day, my Lucky Wellies will be in some long-forgotten archive basement of an ancient writing museum, labelled, "Daisy's Lucky Wellies - Daisy could not write without wearing her Lucky Wellies and drinking Baileys coffee."
So, what would you like your Thing to be?
I don't have a lucky pair of socks or anything, but I do have my favourite chair where I always sit when I'm doing anything writing-related. It's just a regular recliner but it's so comfy and my laptop sits nicely on the arm. I'm never settled enough to write anywhere else.
I don't really have a lucky "thing" per se, but I can't really imagine writing without a cup of coffee and a pack of cigarettes nearby...just sayin'
I once knew a drinker who had a moderating problem...
I don't have a particular object or need to have coffee at hand, but I do need to have peace and quiet so I can write without being interrupted. So perhaps a closed door with a "Do Not Disturb" sign on it would be the "thing" I need.
To be honest though,
I think my best quality would be; making excuses.
I should of been a hired "excuse maker" for rent
I don't know if it's a thing.. but I don't write spontaneously.. I tend to let many ideas fill my head before I let them out.. maybe that's why I often have 6-7 pieces of work in various stages of completion.. incompletion may be my thing..
Oh, I just remembered...I like to have my computer with me when I write...I guess that would be my "thing"...

I don't have a "thing" per se, I do have a certain time of day I like to write, especially when I have alcohol near.
Daisy let me say first off that your name is my favorite flower....
Next I feel you asked a two part question...
What is your THING and what do you want your THING to be? (if not one and the same I assume)
My THING is background noise... There must be some when the Muse strikes me...Usually music but the TV or the washer or dryer works as well...
What I would like my THING to be... Wearing my mama's cross (God rest her soul) As I wear it all the time I would be prolific daily!
I guess I would have to agree with several people above, like having my computer with me, as I write all my stories on it. However, I do write my poetry with pen and paper, then transfer it to the computer when I am satisfied with it. One comment that I don't agree with is the one about being awake. A number of stories and poems I have written, and which are the ones that come the most easily are the ones that I wake up with already fairly formed in my head. So I guess my "thing" would be to wake up with a new story in my head every few days.
We don't know how much we don't know.
If you're talking about the actually typing (or writing) process, then I don't have a 'thing'. But I tend to do most of my thinking not at my computer, usually in the hours when I'm lying awake in bed trying to sleep, and I can't really think things through at any other time... turn of the night, everyone else is asleep... God bless insomnia!
"He Had Blue Eyes", my competition entry heavily inspired by my time spent in Italy:
"The Elements", my book of short stories recently published on Amazon:
Never allow someone else to become your priority while allowing yourself to become their option.
My thing is, having a glass of water and my favorite blue eyeglasses on.
I tend to write late at night with no clothes on but when I write during the day, also with no clothes on (I'm hardly ever dressed) I have to have my music loud, not so loud to disturb the neighbours, I hope, but loud enough that I can hear it over my clacking on the keyboard. Also for some of my stories, I like to have my Kitty ears on.
i have this really cute toy lamb
it's really babyish but i love it loads
plus it's lucky
Life exists. Or it doesn't. Who knows?
My "Thing" is just inspiration... When I get it, I can sit and type out a story or a poem pretty quickly...
Without it, I'm useless and unable to do much at all...
