Haiku (俳句) is a very short form of Japanese poetry typically characterised by three qualities:

 The juxtaposition of two images
Consists of 17 syllables (The American tradition is three lines of 5/7/5)
It should be fun to write because you can write about anything you want
I'll go first. Here's one of mine that consists of four joint Haikus:
 "The End"
I need to write you
To share with you a deep pain
But the letters cry
I draw a picture
Hoping maybe you'll see me
But the colors fade
I sing out a song
My voice begins to waiver
I am without sound
Now I have nothing
To build a bridge to my heart
Only your goodbye
Or a more fun one. This is inspired by my husband:
Daily you cook food
I eat and eat and eat it
My belly is love
Let's see how you do.Shu97EL4sLByo2F9

     Lying, listening
To small rustles all around
Waiting to be found
One beating heart
The living drum we carry
That squirts out blood
      Pancakes are the best.
Fluffy, soft, and delicious.
Pass the syrup please!
      I wonder at doing Haiku
It surely reads as if from menu
Nothing to eat or ingest
      An ancient format
That I have not tried before
That I think I like
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    my heart is lonely
and I long to be with her
but she is so far
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    Why am I thinking
Why won't my mind just switch off
I want it to stop
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    Light breeze blows now
Moonlight lingering on my skin
I'm feeling the nignt
      My heart is aching
For all the lost memories
Fire consumed them all
Tragedy is sure
To find you with your guard down
With a red hot blaze
      When you come to me
You come to me in fullness
And I absorb you

     My heart starts to sigh
Waiting for me to decide
Will I stay or fly
      Outside the storm howls
just like it does in my heart
Please bring out the sun
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    Dust upon my feet
Running has become so hard
Please hold me Cowboy
Years spent in your arms
Months of yearning for you now
Lets find our way back
      Still no sounds I hear
Still living inside their dreams
I wish I was there
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    I can't count. Haiku
sucks. Syllables are silly
and I am confused.
      hurry my children
the schoolbus won't wait for you
but the future does
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    I do not think that
alcohol should be consumed
at the crack of dawn.
      You are not here now
But that will not douse the fire
that burns in my heart
   If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
    Early bird watches
Then swoops down on the slow worm
Breakfast for its young
      Have faith in right now
Let tomorrow take its place
When the sun rises
Let yesterday go
Never bring it forward please
Enjoy new surprises
      I am liminal
Standing outside of circles
Loving on myself
