Too, it doesn't hurt to find yourself a beta buddy. Four, six, eight eyes are better than two. I don't care how long you have been writing or how good you think you are at it.

Some weaknesses you are aware of. If you are not than you need to start writing down mistakes you have made. If you find that you are consistently doing something, put it on your "List". Each and every time you even consider submitting something, review your list and proofread your work. I know that I have problems with shift tenses. I have to be conscious of the fact that I will shift them and never even realize it, even when I proof. The best writers know their own weaknesses even if they are never really able to completely get rid of them. At least then, you know what to look for.

This is great and I agree with AvrgBlkGrl. Know your weaknesses and get into the habit of having someone help you edit and proofread. It does not matter how many times I read though my own stuff, I will always miss something.
