Not every story is going to have a love affair, or even a romantic relationship between characters. Depends on the story you're telling.
Are love and affection human conditions? Yes. Should they be explored in writing? Absolutely, but not every story will provide the proper forum for it.

Most of my books/stories don't include a love affair of any sort, because I'm just not into all that soppy Mills & Boon type stuff. Someone told me a long time ago to write the type of stories I enjoy reading, as those always turn out better, with more passion behind them. Over the years, I've found that to be excellent advice. So if you feel like including romance, include it; if you don't feel like it, don't include it.

I would say most stories do not have a love affair...I think if you read all of the stories on this site, it would be safe to say most do not have a love affair...
I once knew a drinker who had a moderating problem...
