Maybe but they have 'G' suits which inflate to keep their blood in all the right places. 8G was the tolerance for the Airframe.

Just to add my pennyworth (I am not an aficionado of the Sci-Fi genre either).
As a technician on fast jets, back in the eighties, the aircraft I worked on (F4M Phantom II) had 'G' counters fitted in the nose wheel well.
This had to be checked after every flight and, if a reading of 8G (Eight times the force of gravity) was recorded, then the aircraft had to be immediately removed from service and a full inspection for fatigue damage carried out.
Fun Fact: Fun fair rides such as the Tower of Terror ride at Disneyland, have to be powered into the descent because, if they were not, the riders would fall at the same rate and there would be no feeling of weightlessness!

Thank you all for you kind thoughts. Fortunately, the damage to my back is just severe bruising. It will heal in time.
Gillian, you are entitled to a little self pity. Constant pain and disability is frustrating to say the least. In my case, although not serious, every time I move in a certain way, a sharp pain shoots right through me, literally taking my breath away. One cannot help but feel sorry for oneself. I feel for you, Gill, I really do and I hope that you continue on your road to recovery.
In the meantime, I shall sit back... carefully... and enjoy a nice strong coffee and one of Miss Sara's delicious cookies.

Hi peeps.
Feeling a little sorry for myself today... I fell down the stairs.
Hit my elbow and my back so am now in some considerable discomfort. Still, no serious damage done so could have been much worse.

Talked to Kimmibegood on another site where we are both members. All is good. She is dealing with some difficult personal matters and that was affecting her mood. She sends congratulations to the winners and apologizes if she affected our celebrations. It was not really the comp results that upset her but the personal situation.

Don't be downhearted, Kimmi. We all have our hearts tied strongly to what we do. Judging competitions involves many aspects, not least of which has got to be personal taste. Suppose a horror author entered a competition alongside a romance author and the judge was someone who was a great fan of Stephen King. If the Horror story won, that doesn't mean that the Romance story wasn't great.
Take a step back, feel a little sorry for yourself if you like, and then get down to more writing. I've been there, done that and got a hell of a lot of T-Shirts!

The Rankin-Bass animated Hobbit was, on the other hand, very good even if it lost some bits (like Beorn). The Hobbit can be effectively done with a 2 or 3 hour movie. I have no idea what Jackson was thinking other than milking Middle Earth for all it's worth.
I have a 19CD audio book box set of the BBC radio adaptation of LOTR and The Hobbit. It is a wonderful way to relax in the car on a long journey. I highly recommend it.

My recovery has been a very slow process but I am grateful for the care I got and am getting. Other family members had only mild symptoms thankfully. Getting out of bed and showering without help had been my biggest accomplishment so far, but today I changed the sheets. Progress.

So pleased that you are healing, Gillian, albeit slowly. I think that cats are a great comfort in such times of stress. Our families cannot give us 100% of their time but our felines are always there for us.
