In this same vein, I have opted for the setting which disallows scoring without comments and yet I have some stories with a higher vote count than comments. How is this possible?
I personally think that the challenge is a good idea. It doesn't really need badges but if that's what people want then so be it.
I see it as a chance to write something interesting, an imagination prompt, if you like. Something to get those literary juices flowing.
There is an excellent prize that all those who contribute will receive.
"Is there? What?" I hear you ask.
The satisfaction of knowing that there are people who will thoroughly enjoy the effort you have made to write something for their reading pleasure.

Furthermore, there can be no complaints about the judges decisions!

I love the site, but it seems to be fading into obscurity.

C’mon, Al, please don’t start this again.

Stories Space is a small site and was never intended to be otherwise. If you’re looking for it to rival Wattpad or Medium, that isn’t going to happen. We have experienced steady membership growth, however, and we’re working on updates to encourage more activity. Nay-saying doesn’t improve anything.

Hmm...

Do any of you know Mike Harding?

New on me, but I love it. Thanks.

He is a Manchester comedian most popular in the 70's. His folk songs are incredible. His father was an Air Gunner in Lancasters and was killed. That song was his tribute to him.
You may also appreciate 'The Accington Pals', a song about how whole towns of menfolk were slaughtered during WW1.

OMG you two! Just spent a week discovering Carole King now you give me this Lightfoot guy? He must be country singer if he sings about wrecks.

Just for you, Hayley.

Awwwwwww ... some tea is good for you Anna... like green, English breakfast, Prince of Wales, Russian Black (my tutor used to drink this.. you should see what it does to the inside of a white china teapot!).

If only it tasted nice...

From the movie, Legend, right? Or something like that? God, I love Ferry's voice.

I've got a thread on my other board celebrating Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. He turns 80 today and is doing a charity gig in his hometown, Orillia, Ontario, to celebrate.

Yes, Legend. He is a superb artist, I agree. I am listening to 'Boys and Girls' right now on a disc which is rotating at 33&1/3 RPM.

I also like Gordon Lightfoot. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a fantastic song.
Yet here I am and here I'll stay.
It just can't be any other way.
Usurpers come but on their own
They will never remove me from my throne.
I'm sure that you, a friend of mine,
Wouldn't begrudge me any time
That I am here at the end of the line... would you?
Oh no! I love bananas however they are done but for this one... I think... Banana cake... or do I? Oh... I DON'T KNOW!

Apple pie and Custard or Strawberries and Cream?
Ye Blaggard, Sire! Thouest dare to cast aspersions on thy mother tongue?
And if you think 'thy' means 'the', 'twould seem thee be wrong.
Methinks in the past such words would be fine,
But today it is me at the end of the line!

I'd like to but I don't really have any time-related stories in my current head-list of things to write. We'll see what comes up, though. I'm working on another writing project at the moment anyway so maybe by the time it's done.

That's not a problem. When, sometime in the future, you do have the time and inspiration, write it, take your time editing it and then bring it back to the present and submit it. Simples!
Some songs are so popular that they are recorded by various artistes. Sometimes as a direct rendition and others as reworks and some very different interpretations.
The question is, which do you prefer... This? or That?

So, to begin.

State of Independence

Jon and Vangelis or Donna Summer?

Make your choice and then add another for the next person to choose.

'Pump It' uses a sample of 'Miserlou' which was made famous by Dick Dale in 1962 as the backing track. A cover version was recorded by the Beach Boys (See above) in 1963.
This is just the kind of thing I was trying to encourage.
A great idea and now I have begun a new story for this challenge.
Watch out for it back in the future!
No contest... Turkey!

Roast beef dinner (Traditional English Sunday roast) or BBQ'd Burgers?
Here I am and here I'll stay,
And no pesky meddlers will get in my way.
I've been away but now it's time,
To re-establish my place at the end of the line!

Heeere's Anna!
In UK, high school ends at 16 and the youngest age to hold a driving licence is 17. My first car, however was a MkII Ford Cortina. I also, later, had a MkIII and a MkIV. Back then, Fords were a great car to drive and to own but now I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.
