Good coffee, Larry, mercy bucket.

All the recent talk here on SS about dogs got me to wondering if a short fiction 'challenge on the theme of dogs might appeal to a few folks. At the moment I'm thinking of a 1000 word 'Flash' maximum. Cats and other pets might also be included on this go-around or maybe a later, stand-alone 'challenge'.

Anybody got any thoughts?

It sounds like a fine idea. At first, I was thinking that we already had our Moon Challenge still ongoing. I know Sara is writing a story for that one right now. And I was going to meet that challenge as well when I found the time.

But, actually, there doesn't seem to be any reason why there couldn't be more than one challenge to meet around here. If you come up with the parameters I'm sure some of us could meet your challenge adequately. One good thing about these challenges is that we don't have to have a starting and ending date. Not if we decide it is not necessary.

I've switched to some root beer now. I have to get away from caffeine so I can sleep tonight. And I am busily working on another story.

I hope everyone's day will continue happily.

I certainly agree Mr. Rump Sir

How y'all are? It's 95f here in the 'Valley of the Sun'. That's relatively balmy . Since the high is forecast as 102, this is something of a cool snap. Sara, how are things up on your mountain?

Ms C, you sure those weren't 'end of winter' temps from Australia and/or New Zealand? ;)

Larry, for years we had Yorkshire Terriers underfoot. One, Punkin', was mildly hydrocethalic. Whenever I walked the dogs (his momma, a beagle and a Golden Retriever) he would force his way to the front to be 'leader of the pack. Halfway through the walk, he would have rejoined the group. A bit later he would have fallen behind. By the end of the walk, our 'leader' was being toted by his designated 'quality of life support team' staffer', me. ;)

Think we need to start a new pot of Scott's coffee?

Loved the story of Punkin'. Aren't they amazing? Just like Larry's little dog. They know they rule the world and guide the way, however...if it rains, or gets too hot, or they get too tired...

And with a Beagle and Golden, they are so laid back that they could care less who leads I'm sure.

Off to the dentist this afternoon. So maybe I'll just grab an ice water since it is very hot outside now. And humid. and going to be worse the next few days. I'm not complaining (until I don't have air conditioning for some reason).

Take care good people that I care about.
Watermelon (haven't had it this year but plenty of cantalope)

Asian or Indian food?

Concerned about the people of Whaley Bridge whose homes are threatened by a potential collapse of a dam above the town. I have at least two close friends who are affected, one of whom is the CofE viceroy Whaley Bridge. The parish church is also at risk.

Oh Keith, how terrible this is. I'm so glad their representative is asking for answers as to why the damage happened and to see that it doesn't happen again.
I do hope all goes well for your friends, the church and and all residents.
Hi, it is almost time for bed, but the day has been very good indeed. Have a delightful day tomorrow Sara and my dear Larry. I got the windshield replaced in my car yesterday and today took it up to my daughter's to borrow until her car is repaired. Nothing is smooth for more than a few days it seems. But that is life.

Just when you think things are going forward smoothly life says no. My parent's house was under contract and near the closing when the buyer suddenly lost her funding. What a mess.

Having to go back to showing the house again is not compatible with what is going on with my father's dementia. Sigh... I wish I had some help, but my only sibling seems to feel he doesn't need to pitch in.

I might have to start consuming caffeine. I don't like coffee so I'll have a coke as I steel myself for more meetings with realtors, doctors, and the staff at the retirement community.

I'm also going to miss the trip to Newfoundland my husband and I had planned. He will be going on his own since he already has the time off. I can't leave in the middle of this mess.

Okay, I am done with my self-pity party. Things could be much worse.

I hope the week is going well for everyone.

Cheers!

Gill, I sure feel for you. What a load of work you have already done and there is no end in sight. I used to read about the "part of your life when you take care of your parents" and it was always portrayed as very difficult. But my mother stated she would refuse to live with any of her four children and go to a "retirement" home. Sadly, while she was so strong physically, her mind slowly but then more quickly deteriorated. It took better than 10 years of caring for her and fighting her to go to assisted living. She kept burning things living on her own. And sideswiping other cars, etc. I was so lucky to have 3 siblings that pitched in. But it was not a part time job for those 10 years. You do everything you can to make sure you make yourself a priority. I am so disappointed you can't go to Newfoundland. (thanks for the lovely peach cobbler on my wall).
Oh Gill, not fair to make us all hungry. You started out making my favorite things and went on to make even better favorite things - and finally my very favorite peach cobbler. Wow. Hoping you had a wonderful weekend as both days were lovely here and hoping they were on the water.

And Larry, I am delighted and happy that you are still considering taking ballet classes again this year. I do envy you that sort of flexible muscles.

And Scott, how nice to bring in ice cream and frozen yogurt to share. Don't be surprised with this weather that it goes rather quickly. And I know you are such a wonderful writer you will come up with "all the pieces in place".

Managed to have one of those days never to be repeated. Put two cars out of commission. Lost transmission in one and windshield in the other. It's a long story. I'm sure in 20 years I will be laughing about it but not today.

Lovely to see you here.
Lovely day here. A bit of high temperature, but humidity lower. It was 88 today and into the 90's tomorrow and for the next stretch of days. See everyone in the morning.
