Hey everyone. I’m new to this site. I joined a few weeks ago and have 2 stories posted. Writing is really hard for me. I have a lot of ideas but "grammar “kills me. I'll fret over a sentence or two, just to make sure it sounds right, then I'll lose the idea I was working on. I'm not trying to get rich doing this. I just love doing it. This seemed like the place where people could give me their opinion, positive or negative. I've never shown my work to anyone I know, they don’t even know I write...Don

Yeah... Don...I wouldn't get too wrapped up in all the grammar stuff, and I don't think anyone here expects everything you write to be Pulitzer Prize material...that's what sites like this are for, really...to let us amateurs share with others...

When I first posted my first story online in 2009, nobody really noticed it...it took months before anyone commented on it...but, it didn't deter me...and writing has kept me occupied and off the streets for the last few years...

And like anything else...you get better at it by doing it...
I once knew a drinker who had a moderating problem...

Don, welcome to this scene of old world culture and charm.

Free advice (and worth every cent) Turn off your 'internal editor', say 'Damn the grammar' and keep writing till the story is finished, and only then go back and begin editing, re-writing, and running whatever grammar and spell checker you prefer. It'll be tough at first, maybe even second, but keep on keeping on.

I've experienced the same problem as you in the past with regards to spending too much time on getting sentences just right before I move on. It's only recently that I've finally managed to make myself keep typing rather than checking back on what I've just written. It can really hold you back!

I hope you get a lot out of sharing your work here. smile
