A new and different writing challenge is coming soon to Stories Space.

The details are being worked out. Hopefully, it will be up and running in a few days.

It was to have been be posted already but everyday life has (as usual) interfered with getting it organised.

Stay tuned for details...

Update!

The Literary Inspiration Challenge opened for admissions early in December, and the first text is now on the site.

Sounds interesting, Gypsy but... the badges haven't been updated for the Cheers to Ten Years challenge yet.

If anyone wishes to find the beginning of this epic saga, here it is:
https://www.storiesspace.com/stories/drama/the-nurses.aspx

However, since this story is now available in paperback, only the first few chapters remain. Buy at:

She is talking about a challenge, not a competition. So no judging or winners, just a theme and you get a Challenger (or whatever it is called) badge if you write a story on that theme.

And I imagine Maggie will get everything sorted from the 10 Years comps soon.

I think Anna means the Cheers to 10 words challenge that ran as part of the 10 years celebration. No one has got a badge for that yet.

Ah, forgot about that.

A new challenge sounds fun!

I’m so far behind on awarding challenge badges that I actually considered posting a “Sort Out the Challenge Champ Badges” challenge.

Challenge Champ badges are awarded manually, not by the system, and because challenges have no deadline, each has to be audited to make sure everyone who has earned a badge receives it. That’s why we ask for challenges to require unique tags or other identifying information.

I’ll award the Cheers to 10 Words challenge badges tomorrow, and try to get caught up with the others this week.

The titles of this thread has been changed, to Challenges, New & Old

The newest challenge is the Literary Inspiration Challenge

Quote by Gypsy
Rules of the challenge: select a story, poem, author or theme that appeals to you and is in the public domain – meaning, there is no longer any copyright on the work involved.

Develop a story or poem derived from the work or the author chosen.

This is a reminder and description of some of the other great challenges that are open, with no closing date.

Challenge: Let's Do the Time Warp Again

Quote by Maggie
Description: Submit an original story, poem or song that includes time as a major element — time slipping away, time crawling along, a mysterious time shift, time running out — anything to do with time as a reality or concept.

Challenge: The Moon

Quote by AnnaMayZing
A short story about moon travel. That is it. It can be anything so long as it involves travel to or from the Moon or anything that results therefrom.
ie. A moon base. A desire to travel to the moon. A dream, anything.

Challenge: describe the singer

Quote by Rumple_deWriter
The challenge is simple: Using the prompt as a guideline, describe in 100 words or less, the singer as if she was a character in your short story.

Prompt: With no fanfare, the singer steppes onto the small, dimly lighted stage and slips through the band members until she reaches the microphone stand. The moment she taps on the mike's grill, a bright spotlight illuminates her from head to toe. "Hi," she says, "waving to the suddenly hushed audience. "I'm Linda Ronstadt," and begins to sing.

That's the challenge: describe Linda Ronstadt at some point in her career facing an unknown audience in an undefined setting, and do this in 100 words or less not counting the prompt which need not be included.

Love & Affection - a Valentine's Inspired Challenge

Quote by Gypsy
The story does not have to be on or about Valentine's Day, but it certainly can be.
Romance isn't a requirement, but would be a welcome addition if it suits the story.
Love and affection can cover a vast territory - it can involve the discovery of love for animals or a pet, for instance, on the part of someone who always claimed to dislike them.

There are also the Remembrance Day Challenge
the Challenge: Back to School, the Writing Prompt: Primeval Forest and a Different kind of Challenge.
