Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen.

I have a question for you all which concerns the different spellings of words between British and American English.

In this case, I am referring to the word Brake.

Here in the UK, we have a brake pedal in our cars, and if we wish to stop quickly, we brake hard. If this was past tense, we would have braked hard. Once we have stopped, we apply the handbrake.

When I check this with Grammarly, it tries to tell me that the would is Break. This would change the meaning entirely, I don't want to damage my car, I just want it to stop.

(edit) So, the question is this. Is the word Break used in American/Canadian English instead of Brake, or is Grammarly just trying to ruin my car?

And so, the Scribblers Society was formed.

Do you have any queries about writing? Do want to start writing, but are not sure where to start? Maybe you struggle with grammar? Well, this is the place to discuss it.

Interested? Just drop a message to myself or AaronArcher, and we will send out an invite.

Don't be shy, we are looking forwards to seeing you there.

So much to watch!

The Curse of Oak Island on Wednesdays, Chicago Fire on Fridays. Also on Fridays, a new drama from Germany, Dark Woods (Das Geheimnis des Todeswaldes). On catch-up, another German crime drama, Der Pass, Season two.

No doubt they will all finish at once and I will be left with nothing, as so often happens.

Something lighter. I find one course is enough these days! 😊

Roast beef or corned beef?

I think Anna or I may have posted this before, but I finally listened to the whole album it is from, The Life & Times of Scrooge, and it is magnificent.

I did, and it is. 😉👌

Not quite the same, are they, modern trams? smile

Board Games.

Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit?

I have posted this before, but it is my tribute to Meatloaf. From a little known 1980 movie, in which he starred, Roadie, here is Blondie with Ring of Fire.

Drive a train! (I used to be a train driver before I retired! 🤣)

But still, drive. I hate public transport unless I am driving it.

Bus or Tram (Streetcar)?

Sedan (saloon in the UK). Although they are few and far between now, and mostly unattainable premium-priced cars. Hence I have an SUV.

4x2 or 4x4?

Keep the old but also learn new. Both can be useful.

Do it yourself or get someone to do it for you?

Deep-sea exploration. There is so much to see down there.

Documentary or docu-drama

My day is emotional. Meeting with Hospice at 2:30 while they evaluate Mom. She stopped eating this week. I'm flooded with memories of her and a feeling of aloneness as another person seems about ready to leave my life. I know its all part of the journey...

I am sorry to hear that you are at this stage, WG. My Mum died in a home two years ago. She stopped eating, just kept saying that she wasn't hungry. My heart goes out to you and your family. To me, I felt that she knew that her time was coming, and she was prepared. Perhaps your Mum is too. 🙁

I'm sorry you lost your Mum too, Anna. Hospice has taken her under their care, said she had all the signs of nearing end of life. She's stopped eating and won't take meds. Just sits or sleeps. They said she could rebound a little, but it looked like she was getting ready to pass.

I do feel for you, WG. It is a very tiring and emotional time for all concerned. I will be thinking of you. All I will say is that when the time comes, it is not a time for sorrow, but a time to celebrate her life and the love that she gave you.

I like both but there is something rather special about a hardcover.

Pure fiction or fact-based fiction?

I saw Ghostbusters: Afterlife. What an excellent and well-considered sequel to the original. I loved it.
