One more issue I've noticed here Mr. Gav...we have people making the Top Author list with only five votes instead of the usual six...

Just adding to your "To Do" list, I know...
Gav...we are having the same blog post delete issues that have been pointed out on the other site...

Nobody here thought to check...

Keep passing... I like checking out these obscure sites you keep finding.
Although I still haven't actually entered anything on one yet.

Below is what I would have entered if I had a blog.

Had to be <200 words remember.

Actually, I thought you just had to link it to somewhere if I recall...you could even post it here and link it, no?

I submit to things here and there, though I don't think I actually entered any of the contests...I've been a bit lazy about writing anything new, but that'll pass...I think...

I've been submitting to stuff that accepts previously published material though...I just got this rejection notice from Dancing With Bear...I sent them "His Christmas Wish" a few weeks ago...

Dear Alan,

I enjoyed your story very much, but unfortunately I have been notified that the Christmas Anthology call has been filled. There's always next year and I look forward to reading future submissions from you. Thank you for your submission.
Sincerely,
Bobbie Shafer
Acquisitions Editor
Dancing With Bear Publishing
Ray Davies and The Kinks doing what they do best really...simple observations of society...something like that...

Slut shaming? Not sure about that one.

Yeah, I read that...hey, I don't write this stuff up...just pass along the info...

Maybe someone else will go for that one...

So what did Lafayette do to get a pic posted at his first post??

Apparently he bribed one of the moderators...that works too btw...

Um, just saying...

I can't load any pics on the forum... they just vanish...

You need 20 posts to load pics...you have 14 more to go from what I can see...

Pokes should be back to normal operation.

Not so sure about that...I just got poked by someone and didn't hear anything...
Hey Gav...I'm getting a lot of messages that people are giving me "pokes"...but, I'm not hearing the sound...just letting you know...

Did you just develop perpetuall motion too while you were at it!

Forget perpetual motion...I think he needs to work on something really important...like a beer keg that won't run dry...

Just saying...

It is not impossible to edit one's own work, but it is difficult. Your brain tells you what you want it to and a lot of things can get skipped.

Yes, I think most people have that problem...I know I certainly do, my brain sort of automatically skips over my own errors no matter how many times I read something...

A lot of writers do not have the option of having someone read and edit their work, they just don't know anyone willing, for whatever reasons...most of the time when someone submits something here, the moderators are the first people to actually read it...

I myself make it a point to alert an author to any errors I notice...if it is only a few, I will make the corrections and send them a list so they can correct them on their original copy...I generally limit myself to pointing out spelling and obvious grammar errors, I'll rarely venture into the realm of style or content, unless I feel it's something somewhat glaringly wrong...

Btw, this whole grammar thing goes back a long ways...people have been making writing mistakes for quite some time I hear...

I agree with Lisa...of course, I always agree with Lisa...something to do with job security...

But yeah, and as she said in an earlier post...the site has a lot to offer in terms of writing and writing advice in the forums, but please bear in mind it is intended for all age groups, and keep that in mind when posting and observe the ratings when submitting stories...

We don't want to have to yell at anybody...or make anyone sit in the corner with a dunce cap on...and you really wouldn't want that now, would you?

Lol..no really, not trying to put a damper on anyone's fun, just use common sense...no running in the halls here with scissors, that sort of thing...

Which some might say is the essence of true love...
Moose And Pussy Magazine, a Canadian magazine that is online and print, is having a 1500 word or less short story contest...

"We are having our first short story contest. The winner will receive a grand prize of $50 and their story will be featured on our site this fall. Runner-up prizes may be awarded. There’s no theme and there’s no entry fee. All we ask is that you limit yourself to one submission and to stay under 1500 words."

I was just trying to figure out what they were looking for...but, I'll let you figure that one out...here's the link...

Btw...here is another woman's magazine...

IRIS Magazine is "A magazine for thinking young women"...lol...no comment, but I'm sure that description fits a good number of my friends..."Iris online accepts high quality submissions of poetry, fiction, personal essays, articles, interviews, or Fresh List topics."...not sure how much they pay, but a thinking woman can no doubt figure that out...

Iris | A Magazine for Thinking Young Women
http://womenscenter.virginia.edu/iris/submissions.html
"Entertainment and information on men, female sexuality, sex and relationships. In addition to features (which
are usually, but not always, done in-house), the departments are Beauty, Sex, Book Reviews, Relationships,
Men Speak, Sexual Health & Gynecology, Wealth & Finance."

Pays around $0.18/word. Not too shabby actually...

And yet another aimed at kids...this time flash fiction...

"We are currently looking for Flash Science Fiction for kids aged 10-14 on spec. Flash fiction is a short story about 100 to 1000 (maybe 1500) words in length The story must be a complete story with a setting, protagonist, conflict, and resolution."...pay $5 per story...go for it...
