Number 1...the whole thing at once...no comment on the accuracy of the personality results, though I will say that I'm generally safe around kids...
Good strong coffee...cream and sugar...

I know it's not very original, but I live on it...sometimes it even keeps me awake...
I wrote a story using the method you described, sending a doc to myself...I was writing on my net book, but it got stolen last month...
I wrote the story in and then copied and pasted it into Word2007 at the library to do "spell and grammer" check before posting...
I do not recommend using flash drives...too many people lose them or leave them plugged into a library computer somewhere...I also know of an author who had one become unreadable and he lost about 15 pages of a story he was working on...
Another alternative is to save your work as a draft on a site like this...some people write their stories in the submission page...
LadyS...was that hot apple cider with caramel? You do know, a shot or two of rum wouldn't hurt that any...for medicinal purposes, of course...

Just coffee for me...as usual...I sort of live on coffee...
I've used locations I've been to, and I've researched locations on the net once or twice...I think usually the location isn't that important to my stories, but I think if you get details wrong, like even a cross street a certain restaurant is on, someone may notice and you lose your credibility...
Not that I necessarily had any...
Hey AshleighDoll...I think the simple answer is "yes" writers can be typecast the same way as actors, musicians and anyone else who creates anything...
I can see the point of someone choosing different names to write under, whether it is always necessary is debateable, but in some cases I believe it is...
I am not sure the policy as to writing under different names/multiple accounts, but I have a feeling it will come up soon...
Stay tuned for that thread...
Hey Bee...so, you were the one in front of me this morning with the lap top on her lap trying to steer the car with her knee...
Now I know...can't you get a ticket for writing and driving??? I know around here you can't even text and drive...
I rarely feel nervous about posting, usually get a bit exited about it...curious to the response, and almost always post a story before I've actually read it myself...
Fortunately, there is an editing period...
There have only been a couple of stories I've really been nervous about, the one in particular that comes to mind is "Love Conquers All"...you may have read it under a different title...I was a bit apprehensive about that one, even finishing it...I started writing it in Oct. 09 and didn't go back and finish it until Feb. '10...
But, it turned out to be my most popular story in terms of feedback, especially PM's and e-mails...so, you never know...
I can understand Louise's point about the poems...well, sometimes for me...there are a few I'm putting off posting here...

Writing my first story smile

Hey Jim...what's that story about anyway??? LOL...
I agree with you about the coffee though...I just had my first coffee of the day, it's almost noon...
I'm really slipping here...

It's great to see so many new members joining up!

Just a request that you please not make mention of our sister site here. We really want this to be a site people can feel comfortable sharing with their family and friends, and if there are posts relating to the other site throughout the forum, they may be reluctant to do that.

Thanks!

What other site? How was that?...
I don't write every day...just seems like it...
I find lately I'm more likely to write poems in the morning, stories later in the day...often late at night...
But, I think about ideas any time of day...
I think it depends...if you can find a logical breaking point...feel free to break it up...
I'll sometimes wait to read a story I know is in chapters because I prefer to read the whole thing at once, when the previous parts are still fresh in my mind.
Also, if you do decide to post it in parts, try to write the whole thing then post it in parts...don't write the first chapter and then wait a month to write chapter two...
I made that mistake once...but, if people really like ch. 1, they will read the rest...
Hey StoriesSpacians...this is actually fairly simple, and you should have fun with it...in theory at least...

Simply make up a word...anything, probably the more ridiculous the better, and the next person defines it and uses it in a sentence...

For instance...say the person above me left me the word banananimal

I might write...

Banananimal: n. a rare, yellow, monkey-like creature that lives in fruit trees.

And for a sentence...I might come up with something ridiculous like:

The local zoo noticed its only bananimal had escaped, causing the local press to dub it as the first "bananimal split."

OK, I think you get the idea....
Here is your word: Sharkestrian

Good luck...and have fun...

I removed your link to a competitor's site, Alan. We're trying to encourage that kind of participation here rather than send people elsewhere.

I could swear I saw a link to WritersResources.com somewhere that you posted, but I must be mistaken...
Just trying to be helpful...
[removed by admin] has a lot about it, advice, other people and lots of articles to help...I did a quick search and found at least three groups there...here is one...[link removed]
I've never tried it...I could write 50,000 words in a month, but not a novel...
There is a quote from Stephen King somewhere on there where he says basically, "if you don't write 2,000 words a day, you're not really a writer"...
Oh well...
This is a great example of a caring husband!

The room was full of pregnant women with their partners.
The class was In full swing. The instructor was teaching the
women how to
breathe Properly and was telling the men how to give the
necessary assurance to
their partners at this stage of the pregnancy.

She said "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you.

Walking is Especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic
muscles
and will make Delivery that much easier. Just make several
stops and stay on
a soft Surface like grass or a path."

She looked at the men in the room, "and Gentlemen, remember
-- you're In this
together -- it wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her.

The room suddenly got very quiet as the men absorbed this
information.

Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand.

"Yes, answered the Instructor

"I was just wondering if it would be all right if she
carries a golfbag while
we walk??

This kind of sensitivity just can't be taught..
It takes me about an hour to write one page in Word...so, a six page story would take about six hours...
Most of my stories were started and finished in the same night, but a few were started, usually only a paragraph or a page at most, then finished later...anywhere from two weeks to five months later...
Though the last story I wrote, a Halloween story, was actually started the year before...but, that was an exceptional circumstance...I was supposed to work on it with another author, but she got busy with school and it didn't get finished in time for last Halloween.
I only write a story once...I don't do "rough drafts"...but, that's just me...
I'll take the same as LadyS...
And I never drink water, btw...really never liked the taste...
