By my count, this will make at least 5 separate times I've commented on this topic either in the forum or in a PM to admin. And nothing has changed. Not a single thing. So I'm not sure what the point of the query is anymore. Be that as it may, I shall venture once more into the light and express my thoughts.

Common ground. That's what creates stability in an environment. We need to find a way for members to feel valued enough to participate in processes that encourage regular visits to SS. Inspiration is a fickle dynamic that can come from the simplest endeavor. A new site design. Colors and graphics. Update the look. A more interactive site enabling members to "pimp their page" and express themselves in a more eclectic style. Modify the genres to be more flexible to authors. Provide a live active chat box in lower right screen. Black boxes are onerous. It is much more desirable to chat while reading or writing concurrently.

As LarryfNigh said, his "friends list" is merely a tote board of what used to be. IMHO a friends list can be as divisive as it is inclusive. It becomes cliquish and dilutes the relationships that might otherwise develop. I would suggest doing away with the friends list and replace it with SS member groups, ie, discussion groups, writer groups, resource groups, etc. Each members page can show what groups they are a part of and who is in that group. Being a part of a relevant group will often stimulate further involvement. Besides, friends already know who they are.

Lastly, we need to recognize our differences and be flexible enough to allow for them. Young.. old.. writer.. or reader.. we all have a place here.
Just trust me on the eye using
And all of my chemical abusing
Ignore my open wounds oozing
Or my mind which I am losing
There is none on our shore
Nor will there be evermore
Stains remain on the white dress you wore
Never trust what you believed before
I wake up quite often during the night. I have a pattern I follow. I get up and check windows and doors to make sure everything is ok. I drink half a glass of ice cold milk. Then try to fight my way back asleep.

In the paranormal world, which I am a part of, there is a theory that the hours between midnight and 3am are "dead time".. it is when spirits are most active and it is our sensitivity to such that wakes us. This theory is derived by some as it is surmised that 3am is the time Christ died. My own belief paranormally speaking, is that spirits are constantly active, but it is our REM sleep when we are most vulnerable to contact.

Be all of this that may.. I offer my half a glass of milk as a consideration..
so let's drink wine and roll in the hay
break out the toys and let's play
there's no one around and we have all day
oops.. too late.. sorry about that..
do I still have to pay?
And no one has yet gone
Where I have dared travel
So many hearts won
Yet my own does unravel
Paralyzed, unable to run
My words once relevant, all turn to babble
Come dance with me, dear
Our song is the one playing
Hold me close and never fear
Our bodies tight and swaying
I want to make it very clear
I love you forever is all I am saying
I'm more of a savory experience.. salty.. slightly bitter.. the perfect preamble to sugar..
Hmmmm.. I could have sworn your dragon was on an organic diet.. oh well.. you better take them back home..

Hmmmm.. I'm thinking.. still thinking.. ahhhh.. I have one.. my friends are cool..
Whenever we suffer aches and pains or recover from surgery, we put ourselves through physical therapy to get back to our old selves. Stories Space needs physical therapy. We have gone through a lot of changes. Lost some good members. Been divided by principles and our inability to look past them. We've locked ourselves into patterns and routines that have taken the joy and pleasure away from being conjoined members of the Stories Space family.

I'm as guilty as everyone. I read and comment in spurts and flashes, just like I write. I want to change that. I want to be a better member and a better friend to all of you. In order to do that, I would like to offer some ideas for your consideration. Realizing that we all have lives outside of the internet, none of my ideas is meant to be set in stone, but merely an attempt to alter the patterns and routines we have fallen into.

1. Whenever you go online in SS, try to read/comment/rate the posted work of at least 3 different authors, and not just your favorite authors.

2. When you submit new work and it gets posted, try to read/comment/rate the author above you and below you.

3. Whenever you go online in SS, try to comment on at least 3 different threads in the forum.

All of this may sound like a lot, but in reality, it could all be done in less than 30 +/- mins, excluding your own work of course.

Further comments and suggestions appreciated.
Perhaps it's time for me to go
Or maybe I was never really there
It's left for me to guess and you to know
Whether you honestly truly ever cared
Sorry Keith.. Anna needs you to run and get dragon food.. I'll fill in for you just fine here..
I know this has probably been brought up before, but a recent occurrence has made me think about it again.. Comments and Ratings of our work product..

Gav..

is there any way to make it mandatory to leave a comment for all 3-2-1 ratings? We all know 3-2-1 scores without comments are revenge ratings and this would be a way to stop a lot of that nonsense. Also, is it possible in addition to that or even as an alternative if necessary, to allow the author to request that a revenge rating be removed? By example, if an author's work has twelve 5 ratings and a solitary 3-2-1, they could have the lesser score removed. This way it would maintain the purity of the process as well as let the sniper know it won't do any good to try and dilute an author's true score because it will be removed anyway. Obviously, if there is more than one 3-2-1 rating, all bets are off.
