Dear Paul, you're such a nice guy
But, no matter how hard you try
To claim this spot solely as your own
There is someone else who has grown
Extremely fond of this place you see
That someone happens to be ME
So before claiming victors' rights
And aiming to stay here days and nights
Be warned in manner truthfully
That outcome is not going to be
For you'll have to evict me from here first
And trying that will be the worst
Mistake you will make all this year
Cos come December 31st I'll still be here!!
Fortunately I have set up an aberrant clown extermination service and I am at your disposal...
Anna May, sweetness you are
But you try to go too far
Have I not mentioned before
There is no room for you here anymore!
So away with you, for good this time
And please remember this spot is mine
Come not back today or tomorrow
Unless you are especially looking for sorrow...?
Unfortunately all the clowns are misanthropic, lesbian-hating, one-legged and gay...
Be prepared for disappointment
Around you to entwine
For there is only one winner in the frame
For this thread we call 'The End of the Line'
That victor just has got to be me
For the fat lady sings to the crowd
And my name as the winner
Is being trumpeted aloud!
Unfortunately it contains only clown make-up...

Hiya Kiera darling
where you can be as rude as you want to be and never get into trouble.
The Olive Branch

I wish for you the peace you crave
To find it you will need to be brave:
To assess just what and who you are
And wonder why do you go too far?

It is not easy to understand your mind
And why you are unnecessarily unkind
To folks who would rather take you as a friend
Than to suffer the aggression to which to tend.

Nobody claims perfection, no-one is always right
But is that reason enough to bicker and fight?
Surely a thicker skin and a change of attitude
Would put you in a more amenable mood?

You might even find the odd surprise
When the blinkers fall away from your eyes
That the person you apparently loathe and hate
Could turn out to be a damn good mate.

The turn of a new year is a time for resolutions
And the search for some lasting solutions.
Your case is relatively straightforward
IF you make the effort to climb aboard.

It's all about forgive and forget:
You've a way to go before you're there yet.
When you feel you are I'll be there waiting
And I be the one leading the celebrating!

A king with crown, I'll never be
For power I seek not
I only claim what should be mine
This very special spot
And though I can appreciate
The bond that you two share
I'll guard my spot with all I have
So dragonqueen, beware!

I fear I see examples
Of presumption going on
Both of you claim victory
Though neither of you has won.
Victory cannot yet be claimed
So ponder this, dear friends:
Until that proverbial fat lady sings
This is the thread that never ends!

I think I'll light a candle for David Bowie.

I can put aside our differences and agree with you on this one.

Markets so busy you struggled to walk round them

High streets that had lots and lots of interesting little shops (not the modern charity shops/estate agents/vape shops and fast-food outlets)

Cosy little cafes that sold home-cooked food

Red telephone boxes

Men wearing fedora hats (I've recently started wearing one!)

Women who made their own clothes (my mum made dresses for herself and my two sisters when we were all little kids)

Policemen on the beat in your area

Fireworks that were only heard on November 5th (in the UK)

Cars that had individuality and distinction, unlike modern 'clone cars' that all follow pretty-much the same design.

Busses that had hop-on/hop-off open platforms at the back and a conductor/conductress.

Fuel that doesn't cost and arm and a leg!

You would like Bavaria:

Busy Markets? Tick

Individual shops? Tick (And excellent department stores as we used to have)

Cosy cafes with excellent food? Tick

Men wearing hats? Tick (Maybe not fedora but Bavarian ones)

Policemen on the beat? Tick

Ok, 6 out of 11 isn't bad but there is one more excellent thing that happens in Bavarian towns and cities...

THE SHOPS DON'T OPEN ON SUNDAYS! HOORAY!!!

Bavaria it is.

I'll meet you at that nice little café in the corner of the market square, okay?

I have submitted my (winning ) entry to the competition...

Thank you for your encouragement and support
I am in a state of shock.

One of my rock heroes, David Bowie, has died at the ridiculously young age of sixty-nine.
Given the shock news of the death of rock icon David Bowie, his greatest hits album takes pride of place on my stereo this morning...
