you're alone at christmas

I could not disagree more: I have spent the last fifteen or so Christmas days alone... and I would not have it any other way now
I have several different collections. Pipes and fishing reels from grandfather, and cameras, guns and antique dishes from the other grandparents. I keep them as a connection to my wonderful grandparents.
Markets so busy you struggled to walk round them

High streets that had lots and lots of interesting little shops (not the modern charity shops/estate agents/vape shops and fast-food outlets)

Cosy little cafes that sold home-cooked food

Red telephone boxes

Men wearing fedora hats (I've recently started wearing one!)

Women who made their own clothes (my mum made dresses for herself and my two sisters when we were all little kids)

Policemen on the beat in your area

Fireworks that were only heard on November 5th (in the UK)

Cars that had individuality and distinction, unlike modern 'clone cars' that all follow pretty-much the same design.

Busses that had hop-on/hop-off open platforms at the back and a conductor/conductress.

Fuel that doesn't cost and arm and a leg!

my most prized possession is a plaque my mother hand stitched when i was a baby. it was from a poem she saw in a newspaper.in an article by "dear abbey" back when few people could not afford internet or computers, way back in the late 80's. here's how it goes.

I do believe that God above created you for me to love
he picked you out from all the rest because he knew I'd love you best
I had a heart and it was true but now I've given it to you
so take good as I have done for now you have two and I have none

When I die and go up there I'll wait for you on the Golden Stairs
and if you're not there on Judgement Day I'll know you've gone the other way
so I'll give the angels back their wings their snowy gowns and all those things
and just to prove my love is true I'll go to hell to be with you

today, if you google it,you will find it in many forms, posted by many people but for me it was a message from my mom and hangs on my wall to this day

Oh, wow!

I've only just found this (sorry!) and, to be honest, it brought a lump to my throat.

You are SO lucky to have a mother who loved you enough to have given you such a gift; not the plaque, as that's just the vessel she used to express to you how much she loves you. I hope that on day you'll pass the same message on to your own kids...
Christmas has been and gone
I've survived yet another one
Time to clap and cheer
As the end of the year
Promises to be much more enjoyable and fun!

Uh, uh. Not so fast precious one...

...I think you'll find that THIS is the very last post.zVaRKksgcJSsJeT8

Not to mention if you compete you get a new badge from Gav...If you win or get a runner up win you get another one...That's a possible 2 new badges people, plus as this is a smaller site one has a much better chance of winning.

I will likely give it a go if only to get a new shiny badge silly

If I may? @ Andy... It is likely because of your attitude towards comps that there have not been many... I believe this comp was arranged because the other members were requesting it so the Mods here who give up their free time have arranged one for us...No offense, but no one is forcing you to enter and clearly you don't have a fine appreciation of the shiny badges Gav gives us as I do

Best of luck to every one.

With all due respect to everybody, I offered my opinion. I am very frustrated at the lack of interest over the past several months shown towards the general work that has been posted. Yes, a competition might just flare-up a little more interest for a while but, once it's over and done with, what then? We're all back to where we were before the competition. It's a short-term fix for a long-term issue.

I wish those of you who participate in the competition good luck. I'm choosing to sit this one out
... you've had your first cup of coffee of the day before you remember that it's Christmas Day!
Not sure who the original artist was but it is - Rocky Road to Dublin

You didn’t come just to see the show
I guess you know what you want to see
The way you smile lets me know
I can’t go wrong
I wanna touch you
I wanna feel you
I wanna make you mine ….

Away with you, spawn of the Devil! 'Tis my time to stake my claim as Master of the Underworld and Keeper of the Last Post.
