Hyponpharangytis

This rare aquatic bird -- of the order Hypondreas Almostus Wipedouteus -- survives only in a small highly secret and protected enclave somewhere off the coast of Cornwall, in England. The bird is most easily identified by its cough-like mating call, from whence it gained its name. Only sixteen mating pairs are known to exist in the wild and none have ever been bred in captivity.

"Ah, that is undoubtedly the mating call of the Hyponpharangytis bird!"

There seems to be an unwillingness for people to leave comments on the stories and poems lately... or is it my imagination?

I read a lot of the work that's posted and comment on most of what I read. I have noticed that over the past week or two that very few new submissions are receiving many comments (or scores for that matter) of any description.

Is this just a 'blip' that will resolve itself in due course or is it a reflection of the standard of work being submitted (no better or no worse that any other time as far as I can see) or just not enough people care to comment?

I've observed over the years since I've been a member here that the lull you refer to happens from time to time. It is seasonal, I think, happening when people are busy in their off-line lives with work, school, seasonal changes, summer heat, holidays and so on. We're just in one of those phases. Like the weather, it will change with time, and then people will have more lee-way to read, comment, score and even write new texts.

Thanks. Much as I suspected...

I love you lots, Dave.

Gives you lots of hugs and a few kisses.

You mean, you're not a smartie pants like I am.

Gypsum is very close to Gypsy, so that's what I didn't do, use Gypsy.

It's too your credit you didn't get it, it shows your mind isn't running along silly lines, like mine is today. Which is due to the fact I feel better and am finally on the mend, thank you for asking in the other thread.

Okay, back to the game.

umbrella - lackadaisical

lackadaisical - altruism

Balderdashery - to run away from a bald person

At school, Andy would balderdashery every time he saw the headmistress.

Schnuclemuff

This is a word of German origin and describes a device for keeping a certain delicate part of the anatomy safe from radiation poisoning in the event of an nuclear war.

"Make sure you wear your schnuclemuff. The radiation count is quite high today."

Do you enjoy gardening, and if so, what plants do you like to grow?

Your little darling...??

Nope... not mine.
As a quick reply to Roland and Paul: I have expressed my opinion about f/b and comments elsewhere... It probably would be more prudent for me to not reiterate those opinions here

I'm very much a stay-a-home person so nothing unusual planned for me. Boring I know...

How would you most like to be remembered -- as a writer or as a nice person?
