Gardyloo... A warning shouted before throwing water from above.

Because it's a funny word ...imo

That is a GREAT word! I want to use it in one of my stories or poems...

Spangle is a nice word, too: amongst other definitions it means a small sprkling object... and I like small sparkling objects

Anyways, my point was that some people who joined for the competition may have joined to write, and just so happened to see the competition open.

I agree that that is a possibility, however, active writers tend to be active in other ways too, on the forum, or as readers. Apart from that, all the active writers, and as far as I can see, there are no exceptions, show at least a little bit of themselves in their profiles.

judging from what I've read from our members so far they won't find it easy picken's..

Nope, you're absolutely right, they won't. I don't think they'll be among the winners.

Indeed there are no rules, that prevent people from joining for the sole purpose of trying to win some money. That is, why I brought this up. I think changing the rules is at least worth some thought.
I honestly believe, that not being able to enter in a competition right away, will not stop a person who really wants to write, from joining Stories Space.

OUT OF RESPECT FOR ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE SITE I AM EDITING THIS POST.

THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME I WILL DO SO.

For the record, Paul, I'm with you 100%. I fully understand where you're coming from as it relates to another debate on another thread about newbies/guests leaving comments and scoring. This matter goes hand-in-hand with that issue, in my opinion. After all, asking for fairness isn't a crime... is it?
I just Googled 'amateur short stories' and up popped SS.

I'm fascinated to see from the poll that word of mouth scored so highly. That's quite a pat on the back for a relatively small website so congrats to the admin guys. That is something to be proud of!

A crazy old dude from Southampton
who adored that song by Peter Frampton
once dressed up like a frog
and jumped into a bog
and got bit by a snake that he stamped on

Nice one, P... This made me chuckle. Not giggle..., not laugh-out-loud..., not guffaw..., just a small appreciative chuckle...

I like very deep and loving poems, very sad and heartbreaking.

I love love poems and sad poems, because I enjoy and can relate the most. Or because I feel the most with them.

I like stuff that makes me stop and think: makes me say "wow, that's incredible". I want to be jealous of the author, which is the highest compliment I can pay another writer. I want to wish I'd written it...

Sure, I like the flipant, silly and funny, of course I do. God knows we need as much of that as we can get. In my own writing I try to cover both bases, as much to balance my own emotions as to stir anybody elses.
The thousands of people affected by the massacre in Baga, by Boko Haram.
With pets no, I hate them. But with kids might manage.

How often you think you should have done that the other way??
Strawberry shortcake

Can you stand to be in a quiet house for a whole week?

The other site

Yes...and by a very special friend. I'm grateful for it.

Lmao hi hon.xxoo

For the adults who are, in their darkest moments, still the scared children they once were...
I once saw a cow jump the moon
I remember think "too soon
For April Fools jokes
Created by blokes
Who can only eat with a spoon"
Can't stay long
I have to leave
Or else there'll be trouble
Like you would not believe
You see, it's walkies time
For my beloved pet
And if I'm late taking him out
He's liable to get
Stroppy and sulky
Like an awkward teenager
I'm not about to put myself
Into iminent danger
Of sulking and pouting, huffs and puffs
Having to stop what I'm doing
Is already bad enough
Without being made to feel guilty
For not paying him full attention
What that does to my conscience
I just cannot mention
So, I'm off to brave the weather:
Cold wind and cold rain
But, fear ye not
I'll be back again
In an hour or two
To enjoy the good company
Of every one of you!
