Ape busy. Ape have blood tests and work stuff. Ape back on coffee tomorrow (hopefully).

How's things, gang? Kind of grey here but no showers or storms yet, though they are forecasting them.

I'm making a small change to a published story and waiting for approval. Added a cover image to "Encounter in the Woods by Night". I was walking in the woods where it is actually set last evening so snapped some pics and chose one for the cover image. No weird kissing ghosts, though. 🙁(then again, would I admit it if I was making out with a spirit?😕)

I was pleased to see a preview of AMC's new adaptation of Anne Rices' Interview with the Vampire. Since her death, I wasn't sure if the project was going forward. It will debut in the fall.

I'd heard Christopher Rice (her son) was still involved after her death but hadn't heard a release date. Nice to hear things are ready. Need to see if I can find that preview.

Unfortunately, they also scared off a neighbour bringing yummy treats

Hi, Gil. Nice to hear that your son had a nice wedding.

Forgetting what the sofa looks like isn't so bad. You can have a surprise!

And good afternoon everyone else. I'll throw on a pot of coffee and some Earl Grey tea in case anyone needs a fix. Nice day out here so I'm grabbing a ginger ale myself.

Into another of my writing ruts, I think. Nothing is progressing or sticking right now. I have a few paragraphs of something interesting but no idea of where to go with it. It could be anything from magic realism to urban fantasy to cosmic horror depending on how I spin it, but right now I've just got this weird image that I'm working with, no real plot.

Um. Wow. This is a quite a performance. From what I can find out, it's actually two bands, the German Faun and the Swiss Eluveitie. Thanks to our friendly lion for this. I have seen the video kicking around in my recommendations but his posting of it on another site we are both on got me to finally watch it.

Allergies are making me miserable.

I'm starting to think mine are starting up, though it's still a bit early here. Even trees like birch shouldn't be an issue here for another month or so.

Fortunately, they are polite birds who sing sweetly to the nearly deaf priest.

You know things are bad when you arrive to see the doctor and he refers you to an undertaker.

Baseball, herding kittens, literary conventions, what else are we up to here in Inspirations?

Coffee is brewed, there's some Keemun and Red Rose in the teapots, and hot water in the kettle for the hot chocolate or other teas.

Secret image of Sara at church:

I have never been that attracted to the con scene but I guess if one was close by, I might give it a whirl. Around here, we seem to just have fan-focussed events like Comic-cons and Fan Expos.

You know things are bad when he then adds extra to the bill for "entertainment".

Unfortunately, it is so loud, the poor parish priest goes deaf.

I have heard some of his performances with Queen and Adam was actually a much better substitute for Freddie than I expected. Not sure I would say he is better, but hit more balls out of the park than I reckoned was possible for a guy who came from the TV talent show world.

I have been re-engaging with some old friends, namely the Moody Blues. This song from On The Threshold of a Dream may not be their most popular, but for my money, it is one of their best.

Unfortunately, a violent storm blows the chimes too hard and carries them off

Something old, something new. The band here, Envy of None, is new, as is its wonderful lead singer Maiah Wynne. But backing her are two rock veterans with probably close to a century of experience between them: Alex Lifeson of Rush and Andy Curran of Coney Hatch (and myriad other projects over the years).

One of my favorite YouTube channels is PBS Digital Studios' Storied, which has a number of series on various literary and literature-adjacent topics. One of the them is It's Lit, which is the one that is actually about literature in general and literary matters. The latest, narrated and hosted by author Lindsay Ellis, is on Magic Realism as a genre. It focusses a lot on the history of the genre but also outlines what defines it.

I haven't read the Latin American authors associated with the genre, but have read some authors whose work definitely hits on many of the points given in the definition. Robertson Davies, a noted Canadian novelist of the mid-late twentieth century and one of my favorite authors ever, definitely got into magic realist territory more and more as time went on, with his last four or so novels being pretty explicitly magic realism.

New fabulous uniforms should get them at least a pennant, right? Style = Skill? 😋 Or maybe not.

Good evening, folks. How's things? Going to post a nice video I watched on Magic Realism somewhere and probably start a discussion about writing it in the discussion group.

Wow, it's gone kind of quiet around here. Must be the only cafe that goes dark on a weekend. Anyhow, there's coffee and tea for them what needs it. Kettle is boiled for those seeking other hot beverages. Made a fresh pitcher of iced tea (unsweetened but you can add sugar or artificial sweetner from the supply next to the coffee machine) for those in warmer climes (which is not me today).

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. Later.
